I respectfully disagree with your review of the Franklin TV show. This series is a stunning portrayal of the era, blending beautiful costumes, vibrant colors, and poignant dialogue into what feels like visual poetry. It's not about hooking you with cliffhangers; it's about immersing you in the atmosphere of 1776. The show excels in its depiction of the delicacy and diplomacy of the time-how politics were conducted, the formation of alliances, and the nature of dialogue. Michael Douglas, along with the actor portraying Temple, delivers an outstanding performance, enhancing the authenticity and depth of the series. The entire cast brings this historical period to life, allowing viewers to feel the intensity and subtlety of the era's social and political dynamics. Your focus on the lack of addictive intensity misses the point. This show isn't about creating a 'Netflix-style' binge-watching experience. It's an artful exploration of cinema, offering a deep dive into the struggles and societal challenges of the time, such as the complexities of arranged marriages and the personal trials of the characters. Comparing it to other historical dramas like John Adams, Franklin is not merely a chronicling of events; it captures the human experience behind historical figures and their times. It's unfortunate that your review overlooks these elements, reducing the rich tapestry of this show to its lack of superficial thrills. Franklin is one of Apple TV's finest creations, offering much more than just historical recounting-it invites us to look deeper into the fabric of history and the people who lived it.

I felt the HBO series John Adams did Franklin MUCH better in far less time. That actor whom I believe passed away got his personality far better, even did an accent where as Douglass feels like he’s just playing himself.

Douglas was miscast IMO. I wanted to like this, but I couldn’t even get through the first episode, and the reason why is because of Douglas

I was surprisingly disappointed, too. I thought I was just getting old & critical.🫶🏼

Is anyone aware of a commentary on each episode? if you don't already know the history its very hard to follow in my opinion. does anyone else feel the same way?

I felt the same, I’m a sucker for history and was excited to learn more about Franklin but I feel like the only thing I learned about him was that he was a player.

IMO this should have been called Temple, not Franklin. Spent way too much time on him, Ben seemed sidelined most of the time.

I think its intension was to try and give a wider scope of their mission.

It is an excellent show that shows the state of Paris and France just before its collapse. The decadence is of the chart and it shows a Franklin struggling there with his age, agitators and constant manicuring. Do not go in expecting a typical Franklin act as it is a much more subtle show.
