Why is it funny to her? it's obviously a reference to like a vinyl record, this show taking place in 1980, that's when Records were still the preferred medium of recorded music (although 8-Tracks & audio tapes/cassettes DID exist at that time)...I was born in the first week of September in 1985... by the time I was old enough to remember...CD's had long taken over for cassettes which took over for Vinyl...by the time I was 10 years-old they'd stopped producing Vinyl... and they started making it again in my mid-to-late 20s... I was born to an electrical engineer dad, and i became one myself...my dad & I are also musicians (guitar players) so my dad was always into the newest playback medium with the highest sample rates...but I have no clue what the hell she finds so funny...

My memory is hazy but I think Because she was trying to tutor him but didn't want to help him cheat and he used this same story with tears and she felt bad and decided to help him. Now he's using the same story and she realizes he's been faking the sob story and it's hilarious to her.

That might be the first "definition" of track you think of. But that isn't what she is referring to. To understand what she is referring to, you need to take the statement in context of the conversation (what Daniel said). Her dad's statement quoted by EVILOISA above is the hint to what she is specifically referring to. Poi Lethe's statement above is why she bursts out laughing.

It's funny because he's using the same sob story twice, he's faking it but manages to sound incredibly sincere. Obviously Lindsay the only one that's heard the story twice, she bought it the first time and now the adults are buying it, hearing it again she realises what an absurd situation she's in
