I tried Large Fred Kelly freedom picks and they were so tight I couldn't get them on my fingers. So I haven't used them. I'm thinking of trying the Alaska picks I don't know what size to order. Unfortunately, I don't have skinny fingers. Any comments? By the way nice job on Stairway To Heaven.

Hi, thanks for this demo. I have just got myself some Fred Kellys but I'm still not sure how best to wear them. Do you let the pick cover the base of the nail or do you wear it past the cuticle? I find it if I don't push it quite a bit down the finger, it presses on the cuticle and really digs in which is very uncomfortable, but then I'm not left with much 'nail' to play with! How much of the tip of the pick do you like leaving out to play with. I haven't got particularly large fingers and am using the large sized picks, which still pinch my finger at the back so I think I'll have to widen then a bit. Any advice would be most welcome. Best wishes. Lazar

I like the tone from the Alaska picks better but I will try the Fred Kelly's first because I dislike any fingernail length beyond what is the healthiest short length. I use metal picks for banjo but they do not work good for guitar because of the tonality, plus awkwardness. Thanks for the review, it helped me to make a decision.

The Alaskan fingerpicks always broke on me after about 6 months. I use the Freedom picks now and have never had a problem,

Interesting. I had mine (prob copies...bought in Vietnam) and they lasted 3 weeks. Broke on the front, picking edge and super glue didn't last at all. I wondered if it was common. I noticed you can get metal ones, so presume that breakage issue wouldn't come up. Not seen Fred Kelly picks over here, Will check.

@@jackdawes120 I have the metal ones, too. They are very hard on your strings, so you'd better be prepared to change them every 2 weeks or so. I use them mostly on my banjo. I much prefer the Fred Kelly picks, with the Bumblebee thumb pick. My only complaint is that they need to make these in bright colors, like fluorescent orange, because when I drop one of these clear ones, it is really hard to find it on stage. That's why I have several sets. All of my picks are bright colors so I can find them when I drop one. Getting old sucks in some respects...

@@JoelBrothers Sir is it possible to play the electric guitar with metal fingerpicks? (because of electromagnetic field) Or there would be no problem? Thanks.

@@chrisbrummond4832 I wouldn’t. Even if there were no mag probs, they are really hard on strings. They would probably destroy light electric pretty quickly.

Great video. I think the Kelly's had some pick noise, squeaky in some parts.

A lot of that had to due with his comfort level. Once you play with something long enough you learn how to hit the string without pick noise. For example, I was a banjo player in a bluegrass band for many years, and as a result I can play with metal fingerpicks on guitar with hardly any noticeable metallic noise usually associated with them. It's all what you get used to.

@@bobthabuilda1525 At my current skill level, I can play with plastic fingerpicks on a nylon string guitar and make a noticeable metallic noise.
