Lyrics for MISSVÄXT (by Fredlös, Swedish Original Lyrics by Tomas Karlson):
Havet födde väldig rese
Ändlös vinter stundar
Aska föll som snö
Himlens herre blundar
Stora svälten stundar
Klent bet vår sejd
Solens strålar dold i dis
Moln fylkas till fejd
Svält och blod
När Fenris sväljer sol
Pest
I frusen syndaflod
Frost
Där fordom grödan stod
Skåda döda grödan
Som vita besten slukar
Sådd men mycken möda
Hunger sliter tomma bukar
Vassa vindar sliter
Trenne vintrar stundar
Inget järn på detta biter
Himlens herre blundar
Svält och blod
När Fenris sväljer sol
Pest
I frusen syndaflod
Frost
Där fordom grödan stod
FAMINE (English title, and translation of original Swedish lyrics for Missväxt by Tomas Karlso)
The sea gave birth to a mighty giant
Endless winter is coming
Ashes fell like snow
The lord of the heaven closes his eyes
The great famine is coming
Weak was our witchcraft
The sun`s rays hidden in haze
Clouds gather for war
Famine and blood
When Fenris swallows the sun
Pestilence
In frozen deluge
Frost
Where the crop used to grow
Watch the dead crop
Which the white beast devours
Sown but much toil
Hunger tears empty stomachs
Sharp winds tear
Three winters are coming
No iron on this bite
The lord of the heaven closes his eyes
Famine and blood
When Fenris swallows the sun
Pestilence
In frozen deluge
Frost
Where the crop used to grow
About the background story to Missväxt (Famine (English title)) Lyrics:
- During the Middle Ages, specifically in the middle of the 14th century, a significant climate cooling event occurred.
- "The sea gave birth to a great giant" refers to historical volcanic eruptions at sea that propelled ash high into the atmosphere, leading to global cooling.
- In the 14th century, notably during the "years without summer," the eruption of the Tambora volcano released massive amounts of volcanic ash, blocking sunlight from reaching the Earth's surface.
- The consequence was stunted growth, famines, and floods. The colder climate following the plague outbreak in the 14th century exacerbated the plagues' impact on the population.
- Simultaneously, intense battles akin to today's struggles between mafia families were waged by noble families, further affecting the population.
- As was customary, the Church attributed these calamities to the sins of the people, who were believed to have incurred God's wrath.
