I literally unlocked the whistle note after doing this 3 times... I feel like I unlocked a forbidden super power.... I wasn't even a soprano prior to this turns out I just didn't know how to sing high notes since I never took lessons. I'll just keep working on my voice cos now I'm intrigued on how far i can go. Thank you sm Claire!

That’s so cool, but I would warn you about whistle notes. My teacher told me those can damage your voice, but normal high notes are fine 🫶❤ Congrats on your new singing journey! 💓

I'm not a student (yet) of Claire's and I must say, after doing this for a couple of months I've seen noticeable improvements in my voice. I wonder where I'd be if I did this every day! (3-4 times a week was my average) I don't do all the exercises because I don't think I'm doing a couple of them right (I feel strain in my throat on the " nyeh nyeh" exercise) so I just do the ones that feel comfortable. I noticed the difference when I returned to a song I love "Just Around the Riverbend" from Pocahontas. I had to put the song in the "try again later" pile a few months ago because my old singing teacher said it was too advanced for me. The main issues were the jumps and transitions in the chorus and so my upper range voice sounded very weak and thin. It just didn't have the agility to move through the registers smoothly. I decided to sing it through recently and after I finished the first chorus I immediately thought "oh!! that felt so much better!" Do I think it's performance ready? No not yet, but it's definitely getting there. I'm very pleased that I could feel and hear such a noticeable "before/after" difference in the agility and strength of my voice. Definitely motivating to keep going with these exercises. Thanks Claire!

great techniques! and i just wish there isn't so many stop and talk every-time when the higher register hits cuz it's nice to ride the muscles that are already engaged and have the satisfaction of hitting it when done in a flow and continuous manner but I also understand this is an instructional video so all the explaining needs to happen. I would to coming back to this video to practise but too many start and stop. It be nice to have a video with all the explanation done prior to the practise. I think a lot of ppl will come back to practise with you daily.

Thank you so much Claire, this is really helpful! May I ask you a question? Since you are an opera singer as well, do you have the feeling that training other styles of singing "ruins" your classical technique? Or is it possible to train all styles at the same time without losing any technique? I'd love your answer on this topic! Much love xx
@clairehosterman7431

Hi there! That's a great question! Training other styles does not at all ruin your classical technique--it enhances it. But it has to be done with the right teacher (not all teachers can teach a solid foundation that encompasses all genres of singing). It is a common myth that a classical training is more important than an over-all training--classical or opera is not better or healthier for singers (I am classically trained and was on the road to becoming an opera singer!). A good technique helps you develop your chest, middle and head voices, blend them, breathe 360 degrees around the body and sing with power, ease and longevity. I'll hopefully be posting more videos on technique, and you can see how I teach, because I focus on training all styles at the same time without losing any technique! :) I hope this helps and thank you for your question! :)

@@clairehosterman7431 Thank you so much for your long answer! :) :) I feel really relieved hearing this. I'm classically trained as well and aaaaalways tried all other different kinds of technique. My teacher always said that I shouldn't train other styles too much since they could "weaken" the classical technique. ... well, I trained them anyway (:D) and the only thing I noticed was that it maybe took me a liiittle bit longer to fully open my throat for classical technique but that's it :) Thank you for your great videos, they help me soooooo much with my singing!! Much love from Austria!

Thank you, should the larynx stays neutral when going nasal with the middle sounds? or is it ok if it goes up a bit?
@clairehosterman7431
3 жыл бұрын
Good question! It depends on the quality of sound you want: if you're doing rock n'roll, then your larynx would be placed a bit high, but for most songs you want your larynx to be neutral, which is very healthy. For these middle voice warmups (and in general) I would say that you want your larynx to be neutral, and allow only the sound to move up your face (and not have your chest voice force its way up!). If you notice your larynx moving upwards, try squatting, thinking down, and even "pulling your voice towards you from the floor", just to bring your center of gravity down and ground the note. It's important to be grounded when singing high notes in middle voice, and keeping your larynx neutral is a sign of groundedness. It can be hard to describe in writing, but hopefully I will make a video on this in the near future. Let me know if that makes sense :)

(I'm not a singing teacher but this is what I think it could be. Don't test me on court in this lol.) You might be taking in too much breath and not spreading it out equally into your full body. Some people only breath into their stomach. You need to breath into your butt, back, pelvic floor AND stomach. (I hoped this helped! 🥰)
