if you count the syllables of CDP then you can remember that cdp timers are divisible by 3. for example, CDP has 3 syllables, the timers are 180 hold timer divided by 60 second update timer = 3. The same goes for LLDP, LLDP has 4 syllables in the acronym, and timers are 120 divided by 30 = 4! Easy way to remember hold & update timers for both protocols.

@@franksoko02 Take the CCNA topics list and just Google subject you are unsure of. Illimitable Internetworking has a great series with dozens of CCNA videos. I used him to supplement Jeremy's videos if there was a topic he hadn't quite covered yet. Also, look up free CCNA exam questions and study those. That will give you free practice with exam quality questions.

Hi Jeremy. Thanks for a great course! There is a mistake at 20:16. All interfaces are by default configured to transmit AND receive LLDP messages when globally enabled. Rather you should issue the NO lldp transmit/receive to disable transmit or receive.

They'd use them to assist in mapping out the network. Also, if a Cisco IP phone is connected to the switch, CDP should be used to tell it information like what VLAN it is in.

Hey Jeremy, it would be a big help if you could publish (for money or not) your text in the videos. (Obviously you're reading it, so there is very little work to do this.) The way many of us study is to review multiple times the same material. After the first video series viewing, it would be best if we could then read it-- to speed read instead of slowly taking it in through the video again. You are the best! This is why I spend time taking notes. While OneNote is convenient, I mostly focus on hand written notes, because my eyes, hand and brain all participate in the process when I write, which helps me visualize the information exactly how I've written it myself when I close my eyes. Then you just skim through your own notes to refresh it.

Try it in packet tracer! Packet tracer will behave accurately for CDP, you can see how it works :)

Why learn all the "show" commands by heart? You just need to know the logic of action. The router will tell you the rest after entering "show cdp?" It does not make sense

At 7:20, cdp is not enabled. so what does that mean? That the device is not a Cisco device? You said cdp is enabled by default on Cisco devices.

Enable the LLDP/CDP globally means, to enable the protocol on all interfaces of the device at once ???- right jeremy? or do we have to enable the protocol on each interface manually after applying command # cdp/lldp run

The global commands should also enable them on the interface level, so the interface commands are usually used in the 'no' form to disable the protocols on specific interfaces.

The MAC address that CDP and LLDP use to send messages - because these are LAYER 2 protocols, not LAYER 3.
