Free Fall is the motion of an object when gravity is the only significant force acting on it. Free Fall motion is an example of a constant acceleration or uniformly accelerated motion.
Regarding whether to use + or - acceleration due to gravity? It all depends on your preferred coordinate system.
The formulas that we are using to compute problems involving objects’ motions with constant acceleration, will be applicable in free fall motion. But instead of a we will be using g, and the displacement x, will be y or the height in free fall motion.
