I've been quilting for years and have watched so many KZitem videos on free motion, trying to get better at it on my home machine. You are by far the best and most patient Teacher I've come across - explaining everything so well. It seems a lot of instructors are more geared to people with longarms, those of us trying to do this on our domestic machines really appreciate you doing this. Just subscribed today - hope there are more tutorials. Thanks so much!!

I don't know if you will receive this as it is January 2023 but I hope so. You are a wonderful young man to do these videos. I began watching with the big white flower panel. I made a huge mistake before that. I read that small thread would show mistakes less in my free motion quilting. I BOUGHT 100WT. WHITE THREAD FOR THE WHITE PANEL. Since I'm 74 years old with old eyes it isn't what I had hoped for. Nevertheless, I persevere due to the cost. Your videos have taught me so much and I want to thank you big time. It saddens me to learn that you will not be having more free-motion videos. With your generous time and instruction I understand. Your time is money. You do beautiful work and I applaud your talent. Also, I am working on a 5 foot collage angel. Your video made it so much easier for me with your how to instructions and the products you use. Again, thank you for all that you do to help people like me at home.

I know this is 4 yrs later but I took my first FMQ class today. I watched your 2 vids on this prior to class and was blown away on how much it helped me understand the process. I have watched TONS of videos and by far this was the one series I will continue to watch over and over to help me improve. I was a little disappointed there wasnt a 3rd video or even more! You are an excellent instructor and so patient and easy to listen to. Once I watched you work, things just clicked in my head. Now I just have to make my hands work with my brain in sync.😉 thank you for taking the time to teach.

You are not only a master quilter but you are a artist.... I am just starting to try the free motion quilting even though I have been quilting for 40 years... I love the hand stitching. But as I get older I know my hand quilting days are limited... So it is time to pick up the skill of machine quilting. You have amazed me with how you teach and how you eliminate any fear factor! I was looking for a beginner free motion quilting tutorial.,. Yours is the second one and I need a look no farther except to more of yours because... I am now ready to try this and it's not as daunting as I thought... Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You're absolutely an amazing, talented individual!🧡

First I would like to say how wonderful your videos are! All of the step by step instruction is so nice! You don't assume that everyone knows these basic steps! Thank you!! I do have a question, when you are doing a quilt, do you baste, spray baste or use basting pins to keep everything together? What is your preferred method? Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge for all to learn!! Thank you!
@cottagetreasuresquilting9289

We definately prefer basting spray. We often use from Walmart $8 to 12$ a can of Alymers craft adhesive. or Aleene's. Both work really well we find, you can reposition, and you can respray.

There isn't a lot of video of showing how to quilt on sewing machines you do a very nice job explaining. I used bright markers to mark project and then followed. before long you don't need the markings. Crayola washable markers are wonderful and I haven't found anything they don't wash out of.

Hi Mario: I appreciate your comments. Yes, just make a practice sandwich and start playing. Challenge yourself to first get your machine dialed in with tension. Make your practice sandwich with white or beige scraps, make your thread black. Practice your designs on plain paper with a pencil. This will give you the muscle memory of where the design is going next. Do this a least 5 times tracing over one design. Challenge yourself to not lift your pencil off of the paper. The first time to the fifth time makes a big difference. Then go onto your practice sandwich. You now know where you are going next. You want every mistake to stick out so they are easier to see at first. Use the marking pen to start so you always no where your going to begin with. Do the same design on five different spots on your practice sandwich. Don't get frustrated. The first one should look like crap. The last one wont. Then challenge your self to just use the marker for the first stem and free hand the rest. Now move to a practise sandwich with white or beige thread. You'll get it. And when you do. You will be able to FMQ your 3 quilts with confidence. You got this. Cheers Alain

Hi Janet: Thanks for you question. I can help. At first you are just tracing the FMQ designs and you can actually use the trace only technique to finish your entire quilt tops FMQ. There is a technique we used where there is no free in free motion quilting. You simply stitch over the traced designs. We have planned a video on that exact subject latter this fall. I think you will find it very handy. Thanks Alain
