We’ll, it’s 315am and I’m finally sitting down with a cold beer beside the wood stove in the garage. I think I’ve watched your vid about 3x now. Have a 1999 John Deere Sabre 15.538 gear. Came with the house we bought this fall. Mower sat for about 4 years, last owner said they couldn’t get it running. It was going to be my winter project, so I drained the oil. It was all fuel. Put in about 2 gallons of oil flushing the gas out over the last week and a half. Bloody float was stuck and gravity did the rest. New fuel filter and installed an inline fuel shut off. As I was making my way to the carb I realized it was hydrolocked. Broke everything down. Cleaned the carb. New oil. New fuel. Once I broke it loose she fired up first try. I am mechanically illiterate, can’t tell you how much I appreciate the video. The motor and carb are near identical to yours. Made for easy going. Cheers.

I know this video is a year old but that spring that broke when you removed the carb isn't the governor return spring. Its purpose is to maintain the slack in the throttle linkage in one direction. If it's allowed to have play in the linkage you get the surging. Just saying. Good video.

Just got a Craftsman LT2000 for $60 because the guy said when he would engage the blades the engine would quit. It has no rust and looks to be in very good shape so I bought it. My plan was to keep it around for parts as I already own 2 working craftsmans and they're newer. However, I started to tinker with this one and upon trying to start it the motor would crank but not start. I removed and cleaned the carburetor which solved the starting issue then I checked the safety switch connection under the seat....of course it was unplugged. I connected it and now I've got a mower that runs perfectly for $60 and about an hour of my time. Great vid!

@Max AC It was so nice to see one of those running as dad had one and back when he bought it brand new it was his pride and joy to be able to cut the acres around the house. Hours and hours days and days he would keep the grass looking so good. We lost dad 4 yrs ago now and recently I looked to kind of restore his old tractor and found the deck beyond repair….yours was excellent by comparison. I’m so hoping to find one for it. Till then I want to get it running well so mom has something to pull her little trailer with all her flowers for planting and taking away the weeds and old plants that have expired. It’s something of dad’s to help keep those memories alive throughout those summer days. His was almost identical except for the 5 speed….his was hydromatic and that function still works. When you press the brake pedal, there is a lever on the "dash" near the blade lever, you simply push that small lever up, that will lock the brake, so you can start it w/o having to hold the brake pedal with your hand. Your deck spindles are trashed, when you heard the grinding noise when you moved them by hand, you can replace both of them for about 40 bucks. New ones are so quiet, you would be surprised.

Just a small suggestion for the next time possibly if it matters but when sharpening your blades make sure to keep quenching it with water to not ruin the heat treating of the blade potentially making it softer or more brittle. Also you might want to take a close look at your paste wax applicator before using it on your truck or just replace it at this point to prevent anything scratching your clear coat. Just something to think about otherwise great video on the process of restoring that lawnmower.

Craftsman never built mowers, they were rebranded mowers built by MTD and AYP. AYP bought out the Husqvarna mower line in the 90’s and the mower Max repaired was the same as a Husqvarna LTH130. The Husqvarna was a bit more upscale with a hydrostatic transaxle, electric PTO and a Kohler Command CV15 engine. I had one inherited from my late father. Ran for 28 years before it finally quit. They don’t build the new ones like the old beasts from years ago.

The ethanol free gasoline burns slower.& Cleaner witch lasts longer to than the regular ethanol gasoline does due to less consumption of need for massive amounts and times.
@scottp2462
10 ай бұрын
Gasoline octane rating determines the rate of burn. Ethanol burns cleaner than non ethanol gasoline. Ethanol is an alcohol and it absorbs water. Left to sit for extended periods the water and ethanol separate and causes gelling and varnish buildup which doesn’t occur with non ethanol gas.

I'll tell you how you can DIY your own ethanol free gasoline at home to o really cheap for your lawn equipment.&boat motors to if you have A boat to. Id buy one of those 10 gallon kerosene containers put in Bottom bleeder valve from the hardware store sealed up good with thread sealer the yellow.,or blue type. Then buy your fuel as gasoline from the store.& Octane booster to put back in to the fuel afterwards you'll need it to. Fill that kerosene container up with gasoline fuel. Next add A 1/2 of cup of water tighten the cap back on it good. Shake it up really good.& Rock it then let set for at 45 minutes. The ethanol will separate from the gas to the bottom of the container. I recommend overnight.,or 2 days for full time process best results outcome. Drain out the water& ethanol out until you see fuel only from the top off of the water ethanol mixtures that has separated itself. Then all you do is add the octane booster shake it up we'll.& Can add in sea foam for more added protection.& Longer shelve life time span to.
