I'm impressed that the length of the screw extension is so precise and seems to allow it to thread back into its "nut" without any issue.
@Mr.Puzzle

Absolutely!
@tobi_n

High precission isn't necessary. Since the tip is movable, it will compensate automatically by moving back a smidgen into the handle part as soon as the second thread grips.
@wbfaulk
2 жыл бұрын
@@tobi_n Obviously, I don't have my hands on the puzzle, but I would have expected that any significant thread mismatch would cause the second set of threads to catch at least a little when they tried to engage, especially since there's no chamfer, and I didn't get any impression of that at all from the video.

As a retired Engineer I would love to see inside that bolt. It is more complicated than a sliding sleeve. The thread rotation must be held. Cool puzzle, now take the bolt apart.

Very nice! Can you check if the “decoy / red haring” threaded hole is actually meant to be used to extend the screw/bolt? Like follows: 1) unscrew bolt 2) screw in to opposing “red haring” hole till dead stop 3) pull on bolt to see if it will extend. (probably is the correct depth of tread for this) (4) unscrew and use as the opening tool)
@Mr.Puzzle
2 жыл бұрын
No, only the first three threads extend. The red herring hole are too deep. It will not be possible to extend it when fully screwed in.

I will tell you, the 'red herring' side is what opened the screw for me the first time by putting it in only part way but it can also be done by the primary side as well. I messed around with this thing for hours and think I even tried the 'solution' inadvertently but its very very snug so must not have yanked on it firmly enough to extend the hidden extender.
