Dave this series on trapping is absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! I only have about a dozen of the aluminum premade dead fall traps the Shawn Kelly recommends, plus a bunch of fishing leaders for snares. I've been lucky with them a few times, but after watching how you trap, and the gear you use. I've totally been inspired to get more gear for trapping. Not to mention the list of cold weather clothing you mentioned in a previous video. I got the marino wool long johns, the sheepskin leather cold weather cap, the Helikon pants, and jacket you recommended. Plus the woobie jacket, wool socks, and cold weather mittens you recommended. I'm still waiting on a few of those items, but boy has your advice made a difference when I'm up in my tree stand! You have so much knowledge on survival gear and skills, that I think you would absolutely survive the apocalypse! I can only imagine how much awesome gear that you lost in your fire. Thank God you were able to recover so quickly, truly inspiring how you didn't let it slow you down! One of these days when I have the extra money and time, I'd love to take some of your classes at the Pathfinder school! Thanks for all you do! God bless you, your family, and all your instructors, like Shawn Kelly, and God bless America!! Merry Christmas brother!!!🤜🤛🇺🇸🇺🇸

Always a sucker for a gear video. It’s interesting to see what people carry to think about what you can add or subtract from your own kit. I wouldn’t mind hearing what trap related gear you carry in the side by side. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I can remember back in the 90s late 80s. Early 90s. I used to trap I took and did a lot of hunting back then 2 I also made a backpack but I used to 5 gallon bucket with 2 ropes. On the ropes, I put 2 knots and tie them. Ran the rope through the bucket top and bottom. That's how I pack my gear in and out. It worked for me for a while until I was able to continue on getting a backpack for my packing basket. I also trapped from canoes. John boats I've trapped beaver. Never called a Fisher. Did not ever catch a bank? I caught one mink I take that back. Haven't caught a week's weathave caught in some fox. Never caught a Coyote yet. Possum skunks makes I have. You're a benefit out of otherwise too. Couple squirrels here and there too. They were accident catches. I did get me a beautiful red fox at 1 time 2 I was so happy that day when I got him he doesn't. He was, he was the hard one to catch for me. Every place I knew where he was. He would avoid going into the trap. Finally I ended up setting a blind drop. And that's how I caught him on his own trail. But I love what you're doing. I'm learning more and more even though I'm not out trapping right I was. Wish I was

The only thing I would suggest would be a roll or two of Kerlix gauze, and an Ace-type bandage sealed in a vacuum-sealed pouch with a home vacuum sealer. You can do so much with just those 2 items (wound dressing, pressure bandage, joint/limb support, immobilization, etc) and it only weighs a few ounces and cost less than 10 bucks. If you want to go deluxe you can add a package of vacuum-sealed Quick Clot. One miss with that axe and I’d want something more than a dirty rag and duct tape.

I'm down for some trappin related gear dumps! Like a sponge I'll soak it up lol. I'm definitely going to use your sled idea from the last vid to release non-target critters, that was great! I do have a question though: Where I live Bobcat trapping just opened, but Mountain Lions have to be released. Any suggestions on releasing a Lion without having to call out fish and wildlife for help when I encounter this? I've heard of utilizing a catch pole, and/or tossing a coat over them etc. Your sled idea may work too, but lions can get pretty big? Think it would still get the job done? And let's face it, at my size I could easily be cat food lol. Surprisingly in the past 5 years I have lucked out and not had to deal with this, but the day I'm sure is soon to come. Thanks for your wisdom!

As a vet in my 60’s i can see another military mans light and effective kit Essentials and nice to haves Its easy to see you get out more than you are “in” and have been in many situations and pared your kit to suite Most keyboard /occasional survivalists carry too much gear Layers as per the Mil PACE system I run a 3 level kit Brig FERGUSON said of survival in WW2 in the jungles: Its amazing how little kit is essential to survival But amazing how essential that little kit is.... Sums it up I find i carry less and less as the years creep up on me My level 1 is my patent 58 skeleton webbing.... Thanks for good content always Keep on keeping on Heads up Eyes open No fear

Thanks you for your service sir 🤝 It’s very true that new people carry too much. It’s a process you need to get comfortable doing. Some people carry too many comfort items. I had that issue backpacking but now I feel more adept and my skills are growing so less items are required. Survival with gear is a hard skill to learn but the better you get the lighter you are. Efficiency is the key
