Excellent tutorials! Please use the Symmetry constraint to center the rectangle. This is much better than specifying "half width"
@turmat01
2 жыл бұрын
100% agree, the symmetry constraint makes more sense to use, and creates less clutter. On a similar note, after mirroring the circle and loosing the constraints, instead of recreating the horiz. and vert. constraints on all 3 circles, you could also use the symmetry constraint to make the other circles symmetric to the first, and then if you move the first, the 3 others will move with it as well. That one will be particularly amazing at removing clutter of constraints everywhere on your sketch

Mr. hardwareguy: I don't know how often you check these comments being the age of these tutorials, with that said I have a high and quick learning curve for the most part and must say your method of teaching these are not only easy to follow but probably the most simplest to understand of any tutorials out there on any platform. (Not just FreeCad) but any Cad Programs in general. I wanted to take the time to thank you for your time and hope you continue in your endeavors to help others. Again Thanks.

Really great mate and thank you for taking the time to create these. It is very rare nowadays on the tube that we come across a person who is doing these videos out of passion and desire but I must say your passion and desire comes across very easily so please don't change, you are doing a great job. If you happened to have the desire to do this professionally I would certainly pay up for this type of guidance so if you do decide to get some cash then go ahead but please DO NOT change your style it works and remember, "Passion and Desire always win".

Nice, I have been going over freecad, and got all familiar with most of the tools and the workbenches. I start a new part and then after I create a few changes I become lost. However you are the first one to give instruction on the order for a new project, when to create a body, when to rename, and then to create a new sketch... watching your first 5 videos really made a major difference!!! Thanks and I subscribed too.

Loved this series. Just received my first 3D printer(ender 3) a couple days ago and have been making, well... everything. Shower rod brackets, 'I survived the Coof - 2020' keychains, tiny brushed motor mounts for micro aircraft etc etc. I bought it to make boxes/housing for all my naked circuits but so far that's about the only thing I *haven't* made. I'm gonna need a couple more of these printers I believe, slow is no fun! All this using FreeCAD and this playlist you put out. Thank you!

For MacOS on v0.18, it's the option/alt button instead of control when making the mirror references. To select more than one circle, use the command button and then use the option/alt then click the line reference. FYI to all.

Is it better to mirror or just cut paste and copy if its a full part ? Ive followed along with these videos and two days later I can actually get things to work and get things done , great set of videos ,,, now its sheet metal next .I play with sheet steel in real life so I hope theres a video on the sheet metal workbench too.

Hi, in all of the videos relating to mirror and linear pattern tools, it seems that all that can be patterned or mirror are simple pads or pockets. Is it possible to mirror or linear pattern a more complicated shape? That is, if you sketched a circle, but then swept it out above the plane along some arbitrary path, can that shape be mirrored or linear patterned? Also, does patterning or mirroring depend on the selected sketches being fully constrained? Alternatively, can one linearly pattern a sketch, and then sweep all of the linear patterned or mirrored elements simultaneously? Thanks for your excellent video!

Hi. Is there any drawback in using other type of constraints to the mirrored circles instead of repeating all those dimensions? Something along the lines of the symmetry constraint and eventually some construction lines (the blue ones)?

After mirroring the PAD, if you exported the new part as an STL file would those 2 halfs be fused together even though there is a line between them?
@foootz

Thats why the sketcher is lacking...while making mirror without constraints is just the same as drawing circles quickly manually and applying constraints. Sketcher needs badly improving, no patterns, no offset, troublesome copying, simple sketching takes ages. Freecad is a briliant piece of software with huge functionality, but the lacking basics in sketcher make it really difficult. I'd wish the developers could stop for a bit with adding new gimmics and focus on the basic blocks. Anyway, freecad is still great!

Until it can really copy the constrains too I find this not that useful because 80% of the time you already spend on creating the constrains. The time you saved by just mirroring the circles is so marginally that I would not consider that tool . I would even contend that creating the circles one by one is even faster than using the mirror tool :) Okay, that might not be true for really complex shapes as you already said.
