Love the content mate. I'm only on my third cook with the cheapest little smoker you can get, but with watching your vids, they have all turned out great even though I have to constantly adjust everything to keep a good temp. Cheers from Australia 👍

This looks like one hell of quality backyard smoker, also the ideal size for a backtard. I notice the quality weld and machined hinges. Great demonstration Josh.

The thing is a beast. Some of the best craftsmanship I've seen in a smoker. In my opinion, worth every penny! You're just not going to get that attention to detail with something mass produced in a factory.

Hello, Very helpful and informative. i am seriously considering this unit along with the Argentine grill. i also looked at Shirley Fabrications newer style cooker cabinet style with an elevated hood and Santa Maria grill. The cabinet style is easier to master. have you ever cooked on a Shirley cooker/ Thanks, steve

Great video. I really appreciated your discussion on the hot spot and influencing its position. The real question I suppose is now that you've tried the Patriot Pits, can you really go back to the Brazos?

Ugh...that's a tough one. Like I said I love my brazos, but this thing has really changed the game for me. It's so stress free to run, especially in the winter. Ultimately I'm going to have to go back to keep up the content for the channel while my freedom 94 is on order. But, once I get mine, I would love to do some comparison videos on fire management and stuff like that.

I have seen that you bought a FREEDOM trailer model. How would descr8be the wood consumption? I'm in Minnesota so our weather is even more brutal. Do you think the "1/3" insulated firebox saves on fuel consumption? Thanks and Smoke On!

I would definitely agree it does. Living in Minnesota, a Patriot Pit would be perfect for you. The fire stays clean and consistent. Usually, I am adding a split or two every 45 min to an hour.

Are you familiar with the TMG Volunteer?? Looks a bit like this one actually.. Trying to decide between the TMG, Workhorse 1975 and Millscale 94… (Only ones available in my country)
@FattysFeasts
Жыл бұрын
What country are you from? I've seen some people on youtube using it. It's probably your best bet if you want something similar to this. The main difference would be the 3/8 vs 1/4 inch steel. I'm becoming less of a fan of workhorse due to things I've heard about the owner threating to sue if people don't take negative videos down about their smoker. Even people who are just doing comparison videos and saying one is better than their. Not saying it's a bad product, but that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, especially in the BBQ community. Millscale is also a decent product, but just not my fav. I'm kind of biased towards these guys just because they are local to me.

Franklin (if you care what he thinks) would cringe at this pit I think. It’s too bad because it looks great. But his philosophy is maximize draw and having to reduce the draw so significantly to move the hot spot is nuts.
@FattysFeasts
Жыл бұрын
I don't think he would cringe. I'm personally not a fan of how his smoker is designed. I know he's all about max draw and controlling temps by adding or subtracting wood, but his smoker is smaller than this one and really can't have dampers without the fire being affected. The draw of this smoker is so insane that using dampers doesn't really hinder anything. His I feel like is very similar to my Brazos in size. If I screw with anything, the fire may go out.

Dude... Love the channel but don't say this smoker only costs $3700. The equivalent smoker you have is almost $5k without shipping. This smoker with zero options is $3950... Not $3700.
@PatriotPits
Жыл бұрын
You sir are correct. Josh isn’t affiliated with us with the exception of us trying to help out his viewers with a promo. But we didn’t inform him of some changes that have happened since he started using this pit. The original caster model was $3,700 when we launched. However, we decided to make the optional insulated firebox a standard item on all pits. Due to its somewhat unique design and being only 1/3 insulated it really aids in the ability for this unit to hold stable temps but avoids some of the flaws of a fully insulated firebox. We believe it sets our pits apart from others. That insulator plate is 3/8” steel with ceramic insulation beneath it and we adjusted the caster model price to reflect that. So at $3,950 you can get a smoker that cooks as well as this one. However with more options comes more cost. I hope that helps clear up any confusion on that. And if anyone has any concerns, questions, or comments - info@patriotpits.com

I appreciate your points. As Patriot Pits said, you are correct. I will be putting a comment advising people of the recent price increase. Unfortunately I made this video a few weeks back before I was aware. Also, when I refer to "this smoker," I'm saying the base model. I'm not trying to mislead people in thinking this particular model is the base model, which I explained in my walkthrough. Hope that clears things up!

DISCLAIMER: I have been made aware of a recent price increase by Patriot Pits that I was not aware of when I made this video. The base model is now $3950. This increase is due to making the insulated firebox standard on all models, as well as some other recent small additions. In addition, it should be noted that this particular model I am using has add ons and is not the base model. I frequently say "this smoker costs $3700" and I say that as if this were the base model with casters, which is the main difference between the two. I'm not trying to mislead people in thinking this particular model is the base model, which I explained in my walkthrough. @FattysFeasts

@@claymedlin4353 That is very up for debate. I've seen both smokers and I truly believe the freedom 94 has much better overall craftsmanship than the workhorse. Not only are the welds better in my opinion, but the casters are better and are rated higher, the design is better, the CNC work is obviously better, the insulated firebox helps a ton, and the tightness of the seals around the doors is way better than anything I've seen on the market including the workhorse.
@smokescouts

@@FattysFeasts in my opinion they're all great pits with great welds. Some offer more options, but you have to pay more. To me it's not a question of which pit is better, it's which pit can you afford. From cheapest to most expensive, I think the best options that are available now & not not local builds are; Big Phil's Blue Smoke, Bell Fab custom build, Workhorse 1975, Patriot Pits, TMG Volunteer, Shirley Traditional Flow. To beat your chest and say one is better than the other is bias in my opinion. I'd love to have any of those pits.
@FattysFeasts

@@smokescouts Absolutely agree. I don't think there is a "best" pit out there. Each one you listed has its pros and cons. I personally prefer the patriot pits over the workhorse, but that's just my opinion. I know a lot of people that swear by the workhorse and that's fine too. All that matters is that we're all smoking!
