"You talkin around me that's the same thing" Silenced her instantly lol. I love that he helped to get her to see in a way they both understand

Maybe my favorite scene in a movie full of great scenes. It really freaked her out that Anne Frank died.

I heard the actual scene was more extreme. She threw the book across the room.

She was expecting a happy ending to the book (because she is still a child and children believe in happy endings) and was shocked how it ended. She also sees herself in Anne Frank so the ending makes her question “what about me?” She doesn’t think she has a chance, because Anne Frank didn’t

Pay attention next time. She said "I hate you and this book" because she saw herself in Anne Frank and was expecting Anne to have a happily ever after ending and got upset to find out she didn't. Not hard to understand

And that lady who helped hide her, I like her. I got all these other books about her from the library. Wow. You used your library card? Nah...

Eva didn’t understand because initially she was biased - before reading the diary she assumed Anne Frank was some spoiled Jewish kid… until she began reading the diary and she got invested because of the sentiments Anne described while in hiding. Like any typical story, Eva assumed and even hoped Anne would eventually be free from hiding. When it came to light Anne died, it left Eva hurt and angry. Disappointed because it’s that same disappointment she felt her whole life growing up with her own experiences, hurt that Anne ultimately did not get to live. But her classmate was trying to have her reflect that in actuality Anne did live. Her story is carrying her legacy. So she is living thanks to her writing.
