Explore the freehand denture conversion workflow for transforming a patient's existing denture into an interim hybrid prosthesis. The process begins with capturing full-face photos of the patient's smile and profile. Next, a denture wash impression is taken using Blue Mousse over the healing caps once the multi-unit abutments (MUAs) are placed.
The denture is then modified by drilling and enlarging holes through the MUA sites from the intaglio surface. Temporary cylinders are placed on the MUAs, and light-body PVS is used to protect the access openings to the abutment screws. The denture is tried in to check for clearance and the temporary cylinders are modified as needed.
A rubber dam or small rubber gaskets are placed over the cylinders to prevent acrylic from locking around the MUA abutments. The surface of the modified denture is prepared to accept the acrylic used to attach the titanium temporary abutments. Acrylic is then injected around each temporary cylinder, ensuring contact with the denture for proper bonding.
The interim hybrid is removed, and the tissues are evaluated. The interim hybrid is backfilled as needed to fill out the contour and cover the titanium temporary abutments. Polishing is performed using silicone points, polishing wheels, and pumice. The interim hybrid is replaced and contact with soft tissue and occlusal contacts are evaluated and adjusted as necessary.
Finally, the access holes are filled with light-body PVS and either bis-acrylic or composite to protect them. The MUAs are seated, and the workflow moves on to the MUA-level options.
