Cracking video. What was the difference in lift or clearance between the FL2's ? Expect a standard one would be stopped or stuck on that trail at some point.
@JoelSelfOutdoorInstructor
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question Richard! Both FL2's shown in this video are lifted, Gary's Black one has a 35mm Front and 45mm rear lift from MuddyMods. Mine is sporting not just a 40mm front lift and 50mm rear but also oversized mud terrain tyres which provide about 30mm more all round too - meaning I sit about 70mm front and 80mm rear in total. Stock FL2's have driven Strata but from what I've seen and heard they have avoided the big obstacles (such as the bomb-hole and deep water crossings) and have needed LOTS of spotting to make it through the rest of the lane! It's doable but would be much harder work than in these modified rigs. I hope that helps! 😁👍🚜

Thanks Stuart! 👍 First thing to equip yourself with is thankfully free, and thats a whole load of knowledge. Join us in the Freelander 2 OffRoad Group on Facebook and you'll have a wealth of experience and knowledge at your fingertips! There are also some really excellent folks out there running regular events and meets for the group across the country! Infact we have a group meet that Im running at a quarry here in the south west of england at the end of the month, if you're keen then details are on this link (please bare in mind this particular event is a paid one, however there are many free events hosted regularly!) joelselfoutdoorinstructor.weebly.com/fl2org-shop.html Now, down to the meat of it, actual upgrades and modifications... obviously there is an almost limitless amount of things that coulf be done however I think you'll find these few bits tackle the FL2's more noticeable vulnerabilities. • Fuel Tank Gaurd • Engine / Bumper Lip Gaurd • All terrain Tyres (inc full size spare) • Upgraded bulbs • Some form of Led bar / spot lights Feel free to quiz me on why those bits but hopefully thats a good little list to consider. Obviously the likes of a lift kit etc are appealing but dont feel you NEED that immediately. 👍🚜

Hi Kevin, with the seat in its normal position slide your hand between the bottom panel and the back rest. Pull upward on the bottom panel and it will unclip and fold forward into the footwell. Remove the head rest from the back rest. Press the button on the top outer edge of the backrest. Fold the backrest forward into a flat position. I hope that helps! 😁👍🚜

@JoelSelfOutdoorInstructor

Thanks for the question Codrvr! There is alot to unpack with this topic and a youtube comment might not do it justice so the short answer is the Freelander 2's gearing is great for this type of offroad use and really it doesn't feel laboured at all. Combine the auto-box, terrain response and the HDC and you've got quite the package! She'll go pretty much wherever you point her. 👍 To really delve into this why not join us in the Freelander 2 OffRoad Group over on Facebook! 👍

Do you think a stock FL2 could have done those lanes?
@JoelSelfOutdoorInstructor
3 жыл бұрын
Hi @TitusPullo A stock FL2 would be able to do these lanes on the most part yes (you'd have to give the bomb-hole on strata a miss for example) but without a tank gaurd etc you would be VERY susceptible to damage, it would take a much slower and more cautious drive than we did - but yes its certainly achievable if you have the time and technical skill to navigate that terrain with a spotter or two to guide your way. 👍

Do freelanders come with 4wd? And can you fit diff locks?
@JoelSelfOutdoorInstructor
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question, @busterSTIG! All specs of FL2 come with 4wd yes but the base spec doesn't have selectable terrain response settings - meaning the system on those vehicles is purely reactivate rather than being able to configure it in advance of getting onto the rough stuff. (My vehicle does have the Terrain Response system.) Difflocks - anything is possible with enough funds but to this point no, I dont know of anyone who's fitted difflocks to a FL2. Its not really needed though as lifting wheels doesn't have the effect it would on more traditional 4wd's - the terrain response system applies the breaks to any lifted wheel and the power is instead diverted to the other wheels that do have traction. As such difflocks in the traditional sense probably are not the modifications to at first consider. I hope that helps.
