I really loved the Rhythm section on Black Teardrops, they layer down a great beat. Nick Walter sounded wonderful and I have been a fan of Jones, she made some great stuff. Speaking of Funky Jazz I just ordered an album from Phil UpChurch called Darkness Darkness. Super funky jazz if you have not heard it before. Two videos this year from my #1 Funk Brother, outstanding. Thanks Paul

Hey Steve! The music by Black Teardrops is sounding beautiful. For an early eighties album is has a great vibe. Darkness Darkness is on my wantlist for a long, long time. At some point in time I would have thought, it would have crossed my path by now. Not yet, but it will. Have some other albums in the meantime by Phil Upchurch, but they aren't as good. All the best. Stay funky. /Paul

Hello! Thanks. I'm not sure, but I think Soul Media gets repressed in small quantities now and again. Bought my copy at HHV. It seems demand is high for this record. All the best. Cheers. /Paul

Good picks Paul, I really like the Black Teardrops and the Japanese artist, Soul Media and also illegal Jazz album. You are broadening my funk taste outside of the US.

Hey Frank. So much great music to discover. Born in the US in 1967, funk took over the world :) The Black Teardrops album has such a beautiful groove. Isn't that Illegal jazz a fun EP? Sneak it in at the end of the video for the people who watch till the end ;) Have great weekend. /Paul

Great picks as always, Paul! Really digging the Black Teardrops, Soul Media, and Gejoma LPs. That Soul Media LP has really jumped in price online -- I'll have to keep my eyes peeled if I see it in a shop. And thanks for the introduction to the Gejoma; looking forward to checking out that "Jazz at the Pawnshop" record too.

Hey Ryan. Black Teardrops is a beautiful album. A great reissue. I just checked, indeed demand seems a bit higher as the availability is for the Soul Media album. If you have the time check out the video on the making of kzitem.info/news/bejne/kad3xZV3rKF8hIo It shows the making of the Gejoma record. All the best. /Paul

Hi! Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but do you know Bohren & Der Club Of Gore? A doom metal band from Germany that started incorporating jazz in their music. Great stuff. Cheers. /Paul

@@XjunkieNLthanks so much , I was listening to their album Beilleid, really intresting indeed! Can you advise me any other artist who's less doomy - more Noise-swingy-ish and avant-garde

I live more at the funky side of things. There is some cross over, but not much. Do you know this album Al Doum & The Faryds - Freaky People? Released in 2021. /Paul
