I always loved that Will was the one who tried to accept this matrimony first. Like he's a young man but he was coming from a time where interracial relationships were starting to become more accepted. But there was still a struggle going on in both sides of the spectrum. It wasn't just whites accepting blacks. It was blacks accepting whites as well. And I always enjoyed how The fresh prince of bel air was willing to explore these topics. Breaking stereotypes. And exploring the ups and downs of living in a black family. It's shows like this that will always be timeless. And I hope many more people will get to see this show for what it is.

I suspect that Hilary, Carlton, and Ashley all had similar positions to Will's when it came to interracial relationships...but they'd just been raised to be "seen and not heard" when it came to discussing uncomfortable issues, so Will was the only one out of all the "kids" who had the guts to say what everybody else was thinking.

Uncle Phil couldn't fix society today. Society runs itself, it is its own emergent entity, so the only way to fix society is to properly educate society so the country as a whole can grow with less bullshit prejudice and over sensitive SJWs that kill it for everyone. These idealistic loud mouths are a cancer, social media is the lymph system, and the world's been infected. Now to watch as society attacks its own rights and freedoms as they create 1000 more labels to categorize people to create more disarray, among other things

For those that are shocked by the prejudice in this episode, you obviously did not watch the entire series. Its a plot device, Will really tries to bring the family together and get to know Frank. I don't think it's skin color as much as it is a cultural issue for most people. They don't want their kids and potential grandkids turning their back on their cultural beliefs and heritage. I love how Hilary (in her own way) didn’t notice that they weren’t talking about his height but that he was white. And her not finding him that “Tall” meant she didn’t see a problem with him. I wish they would have given Ashley a line when Will’s mom said she was against the union. I loved when later Carlton sang “Jungle Fever”
@eichy815
Жыл бұрын
Hilary, despite her ditsy personality, arguably lived a more sophisticated lifestyle than her siblings and cousin. She was savvy enough to understand racism itself, as a Black woman; but it just went over her head that the rest of the family was speaking in code when they said "tall." Hilary was so materialistic that she probably felt that skin color should be the least of anyone's concerns when finding a lover, which is why the interracial relationships was no big deal to her. Carlton obviously had a ton of White friends from that fancy prep school, so he was desensitized to the idea of interracial romances in a way his parents weren't. Ashley, being the youngest, was probably extremely open-minded about interracial dating, and she just didn't speak up in that moment because Phil and Viv had trained her to be "polite" around her elders. Will is the logical choice for being the one (out of all the youngsters) to say the quiet part out loud -- because, despite Will's faults, he's just an all-around good guy, and he knew the adults were acting stupid but he wanted to try to smooth things over with charm and finesse.

I, too, grew up in a town that was just about ALL 'tall.' In fact, there were exactly 3 black families (then a 4th moved in) and one Hispanic family. I still live in the town. @@InDaSoundLabESK well, kinda like when you see someone type out or say "finna" in lieu "about to." I'm guilty of saying it like this, but the correct way would be "isn't it" but where I'm from, alot of ppl kinda mix two words together cause it just roll off the tongue easier.

@Jack Dorseys Mom no culture is a huge part especially for minorities because it gives a sense of home when it feels like your the only people person who is different. It reminds us that we are not alone and we have a place to connect to people like us. Also culture is a huge part of people’s identity. Sometimes I wish I knew more about my culture so I know more of who I am and where I came from. Culture can play a big part in somebody’s self esteem, just by seeing and interacting with people who are like you.

Koreaboos obsessed with dating korean men, finding their oppa, and having mixed aesthetic kpop looking kids should realize korea is still a conservative, homogenous, and patriarchal country so many of their boyfriends parents will be racist. If you're anything other than korean, east asian, or a gorgeous white girl they will reject them because any grandkids they have won't fit the beauty standard or look too "different." In Korea kids with mixed non asian heritage that stand out in looks get bullied or face ostracism in school. Good looking white-korean kids might find a modeling sponsor but if you're part black you will face a lot more issues. The hip hop rnb rap music that spread to korea which is ironically one of the main influences of kpop music doesn't portray african americans with positive stereotypes. And korea is obsessed with pale skin especially for women so theres that.

@@dianal4455 Bro you don't even know me. I have enough mixed people in my family! I am mixed! Plus "kpop looking kids". Kpop idols are mostly grown fully Korean people who aren't even mixed. My kids would/can never look like them! You don't even know me yet you're judging me! That's what should be cut out! Judging people you don't know shouldn't be a thing. So regardless of the bad media representation they shouldn't judge and hate on me. Plus initially I was hesitant to date him because this was literally a guy I saw my future with but I didn't want my kid to face hate from his own grandparents. There are good movies and they listen good black artistes as well. A lot of them just pick and choose.
