Great share. At first I thought they were in an aquarium with fish which would have eaten them,

Dear Joel: I’ve searched Google, several times, to get the species name for the “bloodworm.” Adding the word “midge” to the search allowed me to find this, which is probably the species I purchase frozen for my pets: Chironomus zealandicus, commonly known as the New Zealand midge, common midge, or non-biting midge, is an insect of the Chironomidae family that is endemic to New Zealand. Bloodworms are definitely a favorite, especially for my South American bumblebee catfish. Personally, I don’t like to have snails or limpets in my aquaria. Comet goldfish eat pest snails, so I have one in my 75-gallon tank. I culture Daphnia magna, for my fish. Although not a particular favorite, as they are mostly water, my fish do enjoy chasing and devouring them. I’ve only had hydra appear in my hobby a few times, usually in my daphnia and blackworm cultures. Thank you for sharing your, informative, and fascinating look at invaders in the hobby. You shot terrific footage and your, nano tank is looking fantastic. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! I’m sure many of us in the hobby have seen many different things with different experiences, I’m always fascinated to find organisms that weren’t intended to be added to our aquariums. Thank you for your continued support!
