It's a rare and awesome opportunity to get to see an Olympic athlete document his training like this from so far out.

Its amazing. I love it. Watching him and Based Klokov has been a blast. If Lu Xiaojun, Konstantinovs and Dan Green started doing it too, I'd be euphoric.

Ilya answered the question about his squat technique. He said that he can squat, as he wants it witn any weights anytime. If he feels that he need atg squats he does it. If he feels that parallel squats are enough for him he does it. He has squated in many styles for 20 years. If your knees feel comfortable in atg squat position and it is convenient you can do it in such way. If parallel squat comfortable you can.. He believes that there is nothing wrong with parallel squat, but he strongly suggests not to squat higher than parallel because it is not effective. However, he sometimes squats upper than parallel because he feel that some sets are unnecessary and he needs to relax. Ilya said that he would be happy to answer any questions you have.

At the end he says that many people ask why he sometimes squat not very deep, and he answers that if you have no problems with knees then squat deep to the ground, because its more effective, he sometimes squats not very deep, just because for example its not a hard legs workout day, and he want to give them some rest, or he already did enough hard deep squats before, and "just kidding" at the end

Probably so. I recall hearing that he had trouble making weight at last year's World Championships. eurosport.onet.pl/podnoszenie-ciezarow/me-w-ciezarach-adrian-zielinski-po-raz-pierwszy-w-kategorii-94-kg/z5mnm And according to this recent article mentioning the 94kg weight class a lot...I think he's planning on moving up. lol

Not an expert on weightlifting in anyway, but how come in the olympics Ilya snatches 185 or something close and 140-150 here seems to look harder than his snatch in the olympics?
@Tyngdlyftning1

Because he is alot weaker right now? How is this even hard to assume? He will obviously build up his strength again.

This is him after taking the whole of 2013 out (from what I heard he practically did not train post Olympics). Only got back to serious training at the break of the new year and he seems to be doing progress every day. Only 2 weeks ago he was struggling with 150 from blocks and now...well, you can see it for yourself. What A man

Copy text and past google translate

right, if he squatted to full depth the most difficult portion of the lift coming up would be his sticking point. Some others on this video have given some more detailed explanations but this is what I have read.

Everyone is going to have a different style. What do you find to be peculiar in the way he squats?
