László Krasznahorkai is a Kossuth Prize-winning Hungarian writer and a member of the Széchenyi Academy of Literature and Arts. Almost without exception, his works have always been acclaimed by critics, from the United States to Japan. American writer and critic Susan Sontag called Krasznahorkai "the Hungarian master of the apocalypse, evoking Gogol and Melville".
Since 1985, his film director friend Béla Tarr has made his films almost exclusively from his books and scripts, including the world-famous Sátántango and the Werckmeister harmonies. Tarr Krasznahorkai helped the film director in all his important decisions.
The writer is the recipient of numerous awards, and among many others, he won the International Man Booker Prize on May 18, 2015, which was the first time a Hungarian writer received it.
This very good-humored and multifaceted conversation was made with László Krasznahorkai a few days after the awarding of the Man Booker Prize.
