LOL! I remember visiting with my parents and they started "picking" at each other like this. Then I caught my father snickering during the argument, and my mother showing a mischievous grin and a twinkle in her eye. I realized these arguments were their form of play and sparring with a "safe" opponent. The words sounded serious outside the relationship, but inside the relationship, the battles were about inconsequential topics and had "no harm" rules. Like kittens or puppies playing fiercely with each other.

It's not easy sharing your life with someone who doesn't do what you do. How did these two get this far? One would think at this age, managing breakfast would be easy by now. After watching this, I am so grateful that I live with someone who enjoys sharing similar things. Opposites do attract. My mother almost never ate with my father, and she often ate different food. She watched her diet, he didn't. They found a way to make marriage work.

I currently share an apartment with my 30yr. old sonand we have the same dynamic regarding meal preferences, prep & storage. We entertained Mandy's solution for awhile, but finally decided that I would provide a list of commonly shared fods & ingredients, along with my favorite items that he doesn't particulairly care for. I hand the list off to him & he adds the things he wants & does tbe shopping for us both. When he returns, I mark the caps, lids, cans & bott!es etc. with our first initials & an S on the shared items. Sounds silly, I know, but it works for us! He hu ts for things in the fridge in the same way as Kathryn describes Mandy doing... He opens the door, peers over and around the items in the front row & calls it done. Consequently his items tend to be the ones that have expired when still half full.... Though there's not nearly as much wrangling as before, I find it hard to resist leveling an 'I told you so' concerning the expired food waste. Now, when we have a shared meal, we tend to enjoy the exlerience more.

30 years of marriage, five grown wonderful kids, seven grand children… and there were shades of my husband and I in this 💜😄 my husband’s taste buds have changed over the years, as he’s gotten closer to 70. So we came up with a great arrangement that has worked for us for the past five years. we make our own breakfast and dinners, during the week, which usually consists of a sandwich -on the weekends, I cook our Saturday dinner which he is more than welcome to enjoy that meal - he cooks on Sundays and I’m more than welcome to enjoy that meal-

His energy makes me want to write a play, dense with monologues, about a man just talking & complaining about everything and nothing as Mandy does as the whole set is transformed multiple times reflecting both social upheaval and climate changes coming, something along the lines of a John Adams' The Death of Klinghoffer, but with multiple prerecordings of Mandy playing like a moral ostinato. On the main screen behind the action, an ongoing livestream of the effects of climate change: Fukushima meltdown site, toxic waste dumps leaking into streams, huge hulls of decaying ships being manually disassembled on the beaches of India, massed police forces teargassing protests in cities, and so on, just randomly chosen from what's livestreaming.
