And this, ladies and gents, is why Bach loved the clavichord.

Really weird sounding clavichord. I think part of the reason is that the clavichord has been amplified badly. It sounds like maybe it was amplified using guitar pickups, or something similar, so it doesn’t really sound much like a clavichord - more like an electronic instrument or a Clavinet. Folk were experimenting in those days and it was worth a try! A clavichord sounds far better when it is recorded realistically I think. I amplified a clavichord using a contact mic once. It’s sound carried through the church as intended, but it didn’t have the subtlety of hearing the instrument directly. Clavichords are supposed to be an intimate experience rather than a concert hall instrument, but it is good to see it reaching a bigger audience! Maybe there are better ways to amplify a clavichord that capture more of its character?

It’s not an electronic effect. It’s a pressure effect he’s adding. I don’t really like it either, the normal tone is so much more mellow.
