No one can understand and feel the great romandic composers like Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin better and deeper than grand maestro Friedrich Gulda because master Goulda doesn't give all his energy to strictly to music stracture but what is hidden deep inside the very score of each music work and that can't be else than the heart and soul of the music it self the soul of the composer speaking through the notes to everybody Goulda feels better what we can very difficult expess with words and that is the "love" of the composer - "can you feel Beethovens love, can you"??That's the real thing!!As we listen to that masterpiece of the archgeneral of the composers let's remember a famous quotte of his saying: "To play a wrong note is insignificant but to play without passion is inexcusable"!!Ply the music with passion and all thev rest will natural come without any force, restrain your self and play as if your a robot without the slightest variation without each individualand "touch" nd your playing is as cold and souless as ice!!!

Perfect tempo. This adagio is so deep and sad, if played faster than that, it becomes superficial.
@tauno4280

I totally agree. I like to think that Beethoven preferred a slower interpretation. It makes me think of his 5th symphony. Some conductors take it so fast. It just doesn't suit the work IMHO.
@geuros

@@tauno4280 if Beethoven wouldn't want it to be slow, he wouldn't make it "Adagio Sostenuto" :) so you're right, it's not even speculation, it should be really slow. And it's really hard to keep the tension in slower tempo, which I guess is why many pianists just avoid it completely and go for higher tempo

Genialne wykonanie. Pozdrawiam

LOVE it! The 1st mvt has PERFECT tempo. Most play this waaay too fast. This piece is supposed to sound melancholy, mysterious, haunting... You've got it!! lol I also like in the 1st mvt how you keep the left hand silent so as not to drown out the melody. Most don't do that either. You've got it!! Perfectly!! The finale is absolutely splendid. The 2nd mvt should sound quite the opposite of this: Bouncy and fun! LOL A tad slow, but love how smooth and free-flowing it is. Great use of the pedal. I wish mine sounded like this. 3rd mvt: I know will be fast and POWERFUL! Yup! This is an old recording. Had this been recorded today, it would BLOW US ALL AWAY!!! LOL Love how you're playing it though!! PHENOMENAL!! THANKS for posting!

I´agree Fridrich Gulda was really best specialist in Beethoven´s sonates but I recommand to compare second version with older interpreter Walter Gieseking: Walter Gieseking plays Beethoven "Moonlight" Sonata (rec. 1951) especially last second part was brillant playing by this Master. Unfortunatelly recording there are worst - from 50. But both Masters compareing is very very interesting. Thank you for recording and very nice performences of both ones.
