Still in the mood for the 63rd anniversary of Thai Airways, but now, onboard one of their older planes!
This was a continuation flight from my previous flight originating from Tokyo-Haneda, still taken during their coveted 63rd anniversary. Since my layover time was 2 hours and 50 minutes, I was not in the same rush as my inbound flight to Narita. I arrived at the next gate with around 1 hour and 30 minutes to 1 hour and 40 minutes to spare, and as usual, the security staff at Bangkok were fast but weren't particularly friendly (yes, for a country who is known as the Land of Smiles, I expected more), and so did the ground staff at Bangkok.
Boarding was made on time but was slow and chaotic because the usual auto gate machine that was supposed to be scanning boarding passes became dysfunctional. I was welcomed in a rather cold way by the crews - not something I would expect from an anniversary flight. I was soon off to my seat, again at row 52, and this time I got Thai's older seat which was, in fact, decently comfortable except for the headrest which was too firm. There was also a footrest, albeit using an older model.
Takeoff was late due to traffic congestion, and as soon as we took off, we passed through some cloudy areas of turbulence which hampered the in-flight service a bit. Eventually, I was served a chicken curry with vegetables, alongside some fresh fruits, a cup of yogurt, and a piece of croissant.
The IFE system was somewhat responsive when it comes to touch sensitiveness, but it was otherwise error-prone. There were times when the IFE restarted itself due to crashing or hanging. The contents remain up-to-date, surprisingly, although I expected more music selections. The awkward positioning of the individual remote control did not help either as I could easily press unwanted buttons.
The landing was slightly earlier, and in the midst of the depressed, sad, and tired-looking flight attendants, I found two friendly ones who I took pictures with in this video. Then, off I went to the immigration control which took no more than 5 minutes, and I had the pleasure of enjoying Soekarno Hatta's slow baggage handling. I cleared customs in less than 5 minutes.
Overall, out of the 4 flights I had with Thai, this one was the weakest and perhaps only a one-off. I didn't experience or feel the joy, just like how an anniversary flight should be. Still, it was an enjoyable flight.
