And the reigning world champions in the LCC category has defended its title once again. Congratulations!
A nice experience onboard AirAsia.
I arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 after a long train journey from Bukit Bintang using 3 different lines: the MRT Kajang Line, the MRT Putrajaya Line, and the KLIA Transit. Upon arrival, I immediately checked in for my flight using the kiosk, and the process went relatively smoothly until I reached the baggage drop counter. There, my bags, each weighing 13.5 and 6.5kg, were marked as 14 and 7kg respectively, perhaps due to rounding rules and/or a programming logic error. As a result, both items were marked 1kg overweight, and I was initially asked to pay. That being said, the check-in staff members advised me to offload several items, which brought the total to 13.5kg and 6.4kg, and the system marked that as 14kg and 6kg, making it okay. My carry-ons were then weighed, and I was soon sent to immigration, customs, security check, and eventually, my gate.
The boarding was made on time and was a bit chaotic, but still organized and speedy. This time, I was assigned the middle seat with nobody in my family member getting the window, and as a result, I was forced to record the window view from my middle seat and share the honor with the passenger next to me who was also a fellow avgeek. The welcome from the crews was lukewarm, to say the least, but this tone changed once we got airborne. The cabin, despite aging almost 10.5 years old, looked brand new. There was no trash and dust, it was fresh and very nicely air-conditioned, and it was in its best condition. The seat looked dull and old, but it was decently comfortable, had a lot of seat pocket contents, and was easy to operate.
Once we went airborne, the crews started serving pre-paid meals, and eventually, they entertained us by showing their marketing and communication skills as they sold some duty-free items. This made the flight fun, and eventually, I went to the toilet. Once I exited, I gave the crews my origami, which had a heart shape (conforming to one of my principles of "Living out love"/"活出爱"), and that was when the crews took out their phones and took some selfies together, without skipping on me. They then gave me a free pineapple coconut water drink as a gesture of gratitude.
Landing was 9 minutes ahead of schedule, and I disembarked, after taking more pictures with the lead flight attendant and the captain. Not a minute after I disembarked, the next bunch of passengers began boarding. My bag was very quickly delivered, and I managed to arrive at the airport train station in less than 30 minutes, enough for me to catch the airport train back home.
Overall, this AirAsia experience of mine has reaffirmed my trust in the airline.
