Fritz Wunderlich singing with a kind of musical urgency is emotional. His musical intelligence and tone of voice with multiple layers of color make a lasting impression long after the music ends. He possesses this wonderful and unique quality of assembling mental musical synthesis and emotions like if they were "natural".H. Giesen is a fine accompanist. An amzing and one of the very best ever interpretation of Schumann's Dichterliebe.Thank you to Trebonis for posting this superb concert - video.

I love how Schumann often uses a little "postlude" to truly conclude what the voice has left "unsaid". None more deeply meaningful than the final minutes of this wonderful cycle.

Let's send a little love to the pianist, too! According to the video info, it's Hubert Giesen. Wonderful performance! Beautifully played, didn't overshadow the vocalist, was passionate and aggressive where needed, soft and accommodating when needed as well. Between the two, a Masterful performance

PERFECT actually...there are moments when both voice and piano MUST "converse" and meld into each other..one time the voice is like an EXTENSION of the piano...his vocal strings are piano...then the piano MELTS like a human voice...they are ONE IN the music

I did the first three pieces in college. It was and still is interesting to hear Schumann's mood swings in his work. He was a manic/depressive GENIUS. They published a book called "touched with fire manic depressive illness and the artistic temperament". The book looks at many artists one of which was Robert Schumann. I love these cycle of song/poems. They bring back some very fond memories from University and Conservatory of music.

Brilliant, except that "Ich grolle nicht" is MUCH too fast. See how they have to slow down for the climax.
