Not unusual. You don't have to be a British citizen to join the police in the UK, nor do you have to be a US citizen to join their armed forces; in fact, it's a fast track method to obtain US citizenship.

@@phoebus007 I don`t know about The USA. But to be a police officer in The UK you must be a British citizen, an e.e.a citizen or a foreign national with indefinite leave to remain in the UK with No restrictions.

@@stephensmith4480 Precisely, so you don't have to be a British citizen. The fact he found legal employment within the US, and having an American wife, indicates that he had a green card with indefinite leave to remain in the US with no restrictions.

sorry to have to tell you this Jenny but Nampa PD verify he is a former Sgt in their force and they say they miss him as an officer as well. Quite well known as a brit who served. You really should read and research more before commenting
