Great work by John and Pete. We're eagerly awaiting for MDOT to implement this tool and work more towards its complete streets policy! It also seems like there should be an effort to push toward the "higher-order" use cases mentioned by Pete. We think most people would find it silly for someone to say, "No one is crossing this crocodile infested river - I guess we don't need to build a bridge across it." Yet, we often hear, "No one is currently crossing this 7-lane, 40 mph stroad on foot. I guess we don't need to add pedestrian, cyclist, and transit-user oriented features." If you build out a full, complete network the users will come. There's simply no reason to design Michigan's transportation network so that each person is forced to take a 2-6 ton vehicle along with them just to get to work, the grocery store, or the homes of family members and friends. Keep up the good work and keep working toward implementing the complete streets policy on every project! 🙂

MDOT must focus on expanding access to transportation for everyone not just building roads for cars.

Not sure if any of y'all are reading this, but any road past 20mph should have separated and protected bike lanes and protected pedestrian crossings along with other forms traffic calming when pedestrians and bicyclists meet.
