I would’ve given SFV credit for its comeback if they didn’t interrupt that ‘redemption arc’ with three or four continuous nerfs to all sources of fight money to further force players into buying DLC just to learn matchups, going back on yet another pre-launch promise for greed *even after the massive successes of RER2 and MHW had allowed them to find their financial footing.* And now they’ve added microtransactions in RE4R and didn’t even wait till the game’s launch day to announce they’re selling Akuma, Ed, and Rashid to us for the second time. Capcom’s game quality has gone up, but it’s clear whoever’s in charge of monetization has only looked at their recent success as a green light to nickel-and-dime the player base, which is ironically a big part of how they wound up in such a pitiful state at the time of SFV’s release in the first place. Hopefully people don’t allow a couple of good games to make them forget that Capcom is still a company at the end of the day.

Resident evil too had some "bad" games in that period. They are actually good games, but the leaders wanted to make them more shooters instead of survival horror games, which is what the playerbase was actually interested in. Monster hunter is the weird exception though, it actually had some solid bangers around that time, even though Capcom was suffering. Also, not only Street fighter, but also Resident evil 7, Monster hunter World and Devil may cry 5 (which came out in 2017, 2018 and 2019 respectively) were absolute bangers of games that were released and brought so many old and new fans into each series. Now just to see if they can maintain their footing, or if they will fall back down soon again. Street fighter 6 looks promising though, with exceptional quality (compared to most other gigantic piles of AAA crap that is released today). I only hope that the season passes that they will introduse to street fighter, and other systems like that for other games, will not be abused.

Sorry to hear what happened to Ripley, hope she's feeling much much better now Max. Hope that you'll still do EX & SF Movie later at some point. SF5 took a long time to go from massively disappointing to brilliantly redeemed (except for the cringe story mode which was beyond salvaging. Just like with ugh Rufus, I never ever want to see Feng in another SF game ever again. Seeing that statue of Feng next to the likes of Bison, Vega & Balrog was 110% wrong) but just like No Man's Sky, SF5 did indeed get there in the end. Given how SF6 was developed & has launched, Capcom seriously learned their lesson after what happened with SF5. Although I still don't get how Luke is suppose to be an 'important part' in SF's future. 21:35 = Rival Schools character Akira's last name is Kazama? Akira is a Kazama? I will always appreciate SFV for being my first step into the FGC, faults and all. I’ve always been an onlooker since SF4 vanilla, played at a friends place to try trials and gave up halfway because it was technically difficult for me to complete the end ones. With an emphasis on being a little bit more assessable and its complexit, SFV got me to look for friends to go to locals with, and start to really dig deep into understanding, fundamentals, frame, data, and just a general appreciation for all of the lore from the first to the end of the series. It is the first game I try to take seriously, and while I will never make it out of pools, I had so much fun, making new friends and rivals in this scene. However, it’s time for SF6 to shine on .

It looks to me like capcom is going kind of the same way with 6 as they did with 5 in that simplifying the game for the new players, there are almost no REALLY hard combos in either sf5 or sf6 compared to 4, they are making neutral easier by making whiffed buttons more punishable and it even gives you counter hit now, there are no invincible back dashes or invincible non od reversals so what is up here my guy

Their fighting styles were so unique and versatile. The redesign of most of the characters and the gameplay were under appreciated. SF6 is a good game so far but i think it needs something more. Although people complained a lot about the V triggers, it actually made the game more fun and exciting to watch/play. SF6 doesn't have that "hype" factor when im watching the games. This was a well done video... I love how much passion you put into making people understand what we have been playing. I remember back in the day where streetfighter was at the end of almost any sentence when we spoke on games... Now even though i don't play them more, im getting the excitement I had back when I couldn't play anything else. Thanks for sharing!

Man the section where Max mentions "I don't even want to talk about the rootkit." Reminded me of one thing that I'm still salty about to this day. Admittedly something very few people care about, but I care. The whole story of Capcom announcing there would be a version of the game put out for Linux ("SteamOS" was the wording, but Linux) that Spring. That release never materialized, and we never got any updates. The capcom unity post I wanna say exists to this day, but no updates, no delays, no cancellation. "Linux version this spring." and it just...never happened, dead silence...

Yep. Here's a little story from me. I bought this game day one back in 2016 when it came out. Full price. I knew this game was rushed out to cater to the competitive crowd but even then, Capcom really done fucked up with this game. The fact that it was released barebones just hurts. It's another example of Capcom's dork age and it really showed. Not only that but I also bought the Season Passes for it. I didn't know better. I hoped that maybe Capcom would add more in terms of content. Don't get me wrong. Street Fighter V was good but back then, jeezus christ. It felt so barebones and I think Capcom kind of knew that. I'm a casual btw. I don't take fighting games too seriously. I only bought the game so I can cover the character story modes for the characters and I even did the DLC that would come ultimately. How can Capcom fuck that up? Seriously. But then when Season 3 dropped aka Street Fighter V Arcade Mode and that's when my opinion changed. The Arcade Mode basically added so much to a game like that. Loved it. It gave me an excuse to play the game again and I went through it all without a regard or care in the world. I even got my hands on the updated Champion Edition and it felt like a complete package. It's actually one game that I reviewed twice. I gave the original Street Fighter V a 6 out of 10. I then gave the final version Champion Edition an 8.5 out of 10. I had to be brutal. Honestly, I had to be brutal. I also had no idea that Capcom was going to go under had the game not released then. I'm basically reminded of other fighting games that suffered as well like Soul Calibur V. Jeezus. That was just difficult. Very difficult.

I'll never forget when playing sf5 at launch, when I finally got a match online to earn fight coins and won, my opponents would dc every fucking time so they would not suffer a loss and I would never get coins or rank points for it. EVERY DAMN MATCH IT HAPPENED! And capcom did nothing about it for a very long time.

2015 to 2019 was a dystopian era for fighting games. The games sold well, but no one that stuck around was happy. The trend was to appeal to esports spectators and the accompanying new generation. The main way to do this was to strip everything back and replace the lack of depth with canned spectacle like cinematic super moves and intentionally obstuctive big moments. Around 2019 and into 2020, everyone collectively decided that forced simplicity was a bad idea and changed course drastically. Nowadays, new fighting games are returning to incredible depth that the now experienced "new generation" can now fully appreciate.

@ratedr7845 ironically, Smash Ultimate was the first to correct course and led the way into this new era. Instead of taking things away, the whole gimmick is adding as much as possible. Not just in content, but in gameplay with how complicated some characters can get. That game showed that giving audiences what they want instead of what can make money the quickest can lead to unprecedented financial success.

I don't think I'll ever let Capcom live those days down. Not just for SFV, but the other fighting games too. Like, SF6 is a single good fighting game with seemingly no malicious, predatory, stupid, or slapdash vibes. It can't possibly be enough to make me forget just how low they can sink.

I never understood this mentality The game was bad, but now it's good, and it's shitty that Capcom never attempted to make reparations for the people that invested money in the beginning, but if you bought SFV around season 4 you got a damn good fighting game It reminds me of Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man's Sky. Both games had disastrous launches, (and again, no reparations for the people that got burned in the beginning, which sucks balls) but eventually managed to make a comeback and become good games. And I own both of them. And when I admit that publicly, there's always someone that asks "but don't you remember the state in which those games were released?", yes I do, but I'm buying the game now, where it is a quality product, not back then, when it wasn't. "Oh but you're encouraging a culture of release now fix later", may be. But I have almost 100 hours on Cyberpunk, and more than 200 on PS4 and PC combined, I still check it from time to time because of the constant free updates. Yes, it had bad practices attached to it, but it is still an enjoyable product. I don't criticize you for not forgetting about the past, I criticize people for not allowing themselves to enjoy things because of old wounds
@psycholuigiman

@@Sorrelhas That must get old, having people judge you for buying those games. I mean, as long as you actually enjoy them, I say it doesn't really matter. My thing is always with early adopters, who really oughta realize they're about to get screwed, getting mad. Like, the writing is on the wall and those folks must be deliberately ignoring it if they're still pre-ordering, ya know? Dunno how I feel about the idea of reparations beyond just getting your money back if you decide to return the game. Like I said before, the customer oughta be able to figure out ahead of time if a game is worth the asking price or not. As for those who can't figure it out, well, we've all gotta start that journey somewhere (mine started with Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly). For me, it's not so much that I think I'd be encouraging the "fix it later" culture so prevalent in the industry. It's more like I'm thinking extremely far ahead to when all those free updates will be lost or unobtainable. Someday, especially on consoles, those updates that make the games playable won't be available ya know. Capcom kinda gets away with it since they released SFV again under the subtitle "Champion Edition", which I presume would just come with all the data up to a certain update. Most "fix it later" games don't get that treatment. Why, I've got a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles X that is vastly inferrior now because my WiiU broke down and I can't possibly get the updates to improve the draw distance and load times anymore. Stuff like that is what I think about when buying a game.
@Sorrelhas
Жыл бұрын
@@psycholuigiman Ah, definitely I don't pre-order games (although I did preorder SF6), and a lot of games I can see from a mile away that the game will be bad, or just not live up to standards and expectations. I also agree that a lot of people have the memory of a squirrel, and will constantly set themselves up for these situations "because they learned from the last game, right?". The thing you mentioned about updates is one of my fears regarding preservation of digital media. A recent example is, all monsters released after the launch of Monster Hunter World Iceborne won't be available to people when Capcom shuts down the servers for that game, because they're all tied to online-only event quests. You could mod the game to unlock those event quests, but if you're on console you're boned. A lot of games also release in unplayable states, and get patched on day 1, which means that people with physical copies won't have a way to play the games they own when PSN/Xbox Live dies eventually. Game of the Year editions sometimes fix this, but not every game gets nominated for game of the year.

This is the Capcom I remember from my late teens/ early twenties. Where they were knocking it out of the park with every game. These last few years have been a revival for their brand starting with Resident Evil 2 Remake. A game that I and my friends were waiting on for over 20 years. And it was a masterpiece. It had been years since I was so excited for a game. And they've been hitting homeruns every since (Resident Evil 3 Remake not withstanding). Watch. I'm telling you. There's going to be a Street Fighter Alpha 4. Just wait. I'm bullshittin. LOL There probably won't be, but with the way things have been going the last few years...

It can be argued that their big comeback was emerging with Resident Evil 7's announcement, which also goes hand in hand with how they were lowkey coming back at the end of season 4 of SFV, but yeah, even if it wasn't sudden, it became clear with these big changes coming around.
