Yes. I was a rabid Southern Baptist fundy. Then, I actually read the damned book and thinking about what I was reading. No. Just no. The bible, itself, is the greatest deconversion source possible for a rational human being. Not a big story, there. It happened too fast.

Jemase I always found that weird, I never had the same experience reading the bible. It might have to do with the fact that I was a moderate Catholic, and I always considered it was relatively true-ish, not "literally true". After all, it's just a testament, not the literal word of God, and Catholic theology is there to help us understand its "deeper" meaning. I guess the dissonance with reality wasn't as high as with fundamentalists, and the gap theory in psychology.

***** If you dig deeper into a turd, you find more turd. This "deeper meaning " started in the Catholic church as its claims to actual knowledge were driven back by science. They held onto the literal truth of their myths as long as they could, threatening anyone who dared to disagree with death. No idle threat.
@Calyptico

Jemase "This "deeper meaning " started in the Catholic church as its claims to actual knowledge were driven back by science." I fully agree, the whole deeper meaning and interpretation as allegory instead of literal truth is just as reactionary as fundamentalism. In the face of science, religion seems to have 2 options, adapt or deny. To get back to my original point, because Catholicism has adapted to(or more correctly around, NOMA f.e.) science and modern philosophy, the discrepancy between reality and scripture, which causes the big realization, isn't there, so I wouldn't say that reading the Bible is all that's required for deconversion from Catholicism as a rational human being. For me personally is was actually reading other scriptures, seeing similar claims, and having the question "why should I believe any of this" backfire onto my own faith.

Hey William :) I understand you so much. I was raised in a a christian family. I deconverted few months ago. but no one knows. I am forced to play the game because I can't even imagine the reactions of my parents if I ever came out. The doctrine of hell. There is no concept, no ideology, no teaching that I hate most. This is the first reason why I seriously began to examine my faith. And now I am 100% sure that the bible is complete nonsense with all of its contradictions, absurdities, forgeries and atrocities. I will never understand how a human being can believe in the doctrine of eternal torture and dare to smile for one day of his life. And when preachers say it's justice I can't think of a more stupid and heartless assertion.

It took me forever to post my deconversion video because I was so afraid (and still am) that my family will find out and worry about my soul--especially my mom....she is so FAR GONE FUNDAMENTALIST that she would torture herself mentally if she didn't think I was saved. K W Good to hear your story, and disappointing your Mom isn't going to take this News well. Maybe some people can't help but worship, as it is so much part of their nature. But the nature of our age is constant new discoveries, people a few hundred years ago would think we're gods, but we wont think the same for our descendants 100's of years into the future, as we will know it is just new science. Unfortunately the way the world is going with the increasing levels of poor education, the inability to recognise simple facts like: there are only 2 genders - male & female, the Earth is not flat, and Earth is billions of years old, we landed on the Moon in 1969, 911 was an Islamic terrorist attack, Islam is NOT a religion of peace, You need Gun control laws, all religions are Man made fiction, and without the freedoms to exchange ideas freely, all our Human rights will fail. And the world of the future will be just a promise of what might have been.

A friend and I were high on mushrooms, just sitting in a room talking about a myriad of subjects. He stated the he believed in god and hell. His justification for the existence of an eternal hell was that the evil people of the world could get away with things in this life, so he'd feel better if there was a hell to punish such evil people. I asked if he was scared of the idea of hell. He affirmed that it was a place of unimaginable torture and would not want to go end up there. I then proceeded to say 'Death is the great equalizer, the concept of hell is evil itself, why would you set yourself up like that? Now your belief comes with a real fear and comes with a judgmental aspect based on unobtainable perfection from one who, if it exists, does not reveal itself in any real sense to anyone. One who doesn't make crystal clear what it wants, creates schisms between friend and family on the pretense of doing good, who subjects people to an eternity of torture or perpetual eternal worship.' He is now an atheist and does not live his life in fear of things he can't possibly know.

Excellent story. Fortunately for me I didn't grow up in a religious family. We didn't go to church or talk about religious matters very much. The closest encounter to religion I had was when my parents became friends with some southern baptists who convinced them to sign my brother and I up for something called "vacation bible school" which essentially was a week during summer vacation where we all went to church every day and did bible study. Needless to say, we weren't into it.

Life is better when you get closer to the truth as you will make better decisions. Philosophy sucks for a study to find a career, but good philosophers usually do really well at what ever job they do. My parents did not push any religion on me, it was hardly ever talked about around me, I did not really investigate it until I was like 26. I was already armed with some philosophy though and just with the law of noncontradiction the bible just cannot be true.

That's a good and very interesting question. But when people think that just because we don't have an answer to all of the universe's greatest mysteries, it does not in any way imply that there is a kind of abstract super-human called "God" who did it. The answer is: We don't know yet, but at least we're working on it. We know that the bible was not written by god. It says so in the bible, even. And the very idea of a god the way it's been conceived by religious people, as an entity with unlimited power and will, with a moral codex very similar to that of a human patriarch from a few thousand years ago, and with a horrible temper so keen to punish, and not necessarily in a just manner (ref. Job), -it's just absurd. But it's not a problem, -until somebody starts to act on it and demand that everybody else shold do what they believe is right. Especially those with the quran in their hand tend to be especially fanatic and compulsive about that, but christianity definitely has demonstrated that the words of Jesus are long gone when it comes to acting in a humane manner (assuming that is something good, like generosity, kindness, turning the other cheek, being helpful and truthful etc.). Just because science doesn't have all the answers quite yet, doesn't mean there's a horrible monster that condemns you to a hell he created for not believing in something that is impossible to comprehend, demonstrate, or prove. It just doesn't make sense. But, -assuming that it is true and god exists, -why is it so that wherever religion goes you find so much conflict and suffering, ignorance and poverty, brutality and misery? If you believe Jesus' parable in the bible, -that you shall know the tree from the fruit it bears, -then certainly religion is the devils work, judging by the results. Especially islam, but not only. If there is a manifest of a creator, it must be his creation, in our case, -nature. And what does nature tell us? That is open to interpretation for each and every one. The bible or quran or any other religious book is the product of man, and not divine at all. To claim that it is would be blasphemy against the creator of the universe and everything in it.

I've been having my own doubts about Christianity, the first being that Christians - generally - aren't different than non Christians. The other is that lots of the "supernatural" stuff in church like speaking in tongues (gibberish) isn't actually supernatural at all, just smoke and mirrors, hype, POS or outright tricks for cash. BUT. I have actually experienced things that I don't have any explanation for. A few times I have dreamt of something and it happened in real life, without my orchestrating it. (not world changing events, but insignificant things). Once I dreamt of a woman who had a brain tumour (in real life). Prayers didn't heal her, so they operated on her and removed it. After the op, I dreamt of her - she had blood coming out of her eyes, nose, all down her face, etc. She turned to me and said "more prayer is required for a thorough healing". End of dream. I almost didn't tell anyone at my prayer meeting cos I thought it was crazy, but did, and they all prayed (not me). Much later I met this woman and we were chatting. She said that after her operation there was some kind of complication and she had had blood and fluid coming out of her eyes, nose, etc and she had to get rushed back to the hospital. Don't know why God didn't just heal her in first place, but its also a fair question how I dreamt this. I don't really associate with her, wasn't so interested in her tumour drama, and I dont know anything about brain ops. Another time I dreamt....this story, but anyhow I woke up with the phrase "the first shall be last and the last first" (trying to keep this short so not going to write out the dream). The dream was so vivid and troubling that I actually took the day off work. I couldn't think of anything else. When reading the bible that day, I was making my way through this reading programme and came to Matt 19-20. The first shall be last the last shall be first. I put it down, saying no way! no way! Then later that same day my atheist brother in law randomly said to my son: "you know what the Bible says, joshie? the first shall be last, the last shall be first". I hadn't told him about any of this, and he doesn't really quote bible verses. This was all the same day. Another time I had an urge to read about the prable of the wheat and the tares. I didn't now where it was and opened up to look for it. Not only was it the first page I had opened tto, it was also the first paragraph on that page. Don't know how to calculate the odds. This has happened 3 times with other bits. Once I prayed that God would give me someone to tell about you, because I'm too timid with evangelising. The next morning a guy I was chatting with followed me into the coffee room and asked what did I believe in. I said "what do you mean?" he said again, what do you believe in? So I said I believed in God. He said, really? He was for once being serious, normally he was the joker of the group. I said yes, and I think Jesus was the son of God, and he said again, really? and we had this chat about God etc. The really odd thing was that he was actually listening - everyone there were atheists and hostile to religious beliefs. The previous conversation the three of us were talking about was the state of the country and the state of the army (was when I was in the amry) Got loads more stories, but this is getting long. As for hell -church only goes on and on about this loving God. If they had balanced it out with God being severe, I dont think it would produce such a shock. It doesn't do anything to prove or disprove his existence, only his character. If all this is true, me disagreeing with this stance about punishment, homosexuality etc wont change a thing.

No apologist has ever been able to explain why God had the notion to create in the 1st place. I have always wondered why an omni-competent supernatural archetype would create anything, unless he tripped and fell and created this mess, the universe, by accident. The argument from “Hell” is almost as useful as the argument from the problem of evil. W. Kaufmann in a seminal little book _The Faith of a Heretic_ states “preaching requires threats and promises” (pg. 98). The real answer to the question of “why do I believe” is fear and hope. Kaufmann also makes the point that preaching does not disseminate knowledge or promote critical thinking. In fact the Bible does not praise knowledge, and is against things such as philosophy. Most liberal Christians down play the Hell thing as not being real.

It is a VERY difficult transformation. Amongst the things that made it so hard for me (to this day) is that I know fewer than 10 people who openly admit their skepticism about belief, ALL THE REST are christians, and they view someone like myself as being under the lure of satan. They are usually completely unwilling to consider the possibility of there being no god. I have a huge and wonderfully loving extended family of cousins who love each other like brothers and sisters, well over a hundred. A handful remain unconditionally loving and unjudgemental, but they are all worried about my soul. Many are quick to say the most hurtful things, pointing out every flaw and shortcoming in my life as the reason I am in the clutches themdevil. I've been told to shut up, I've been asked to leave, called stupid, you name it. And all of this for one of the biggest eye opening revelations in all of my 52 years... I realized that god isn't real. If my assessments are accurate, and I have contemplated them for nearly 20 years to reach this conclusion, there isn't a single strand of evidence for the existence of god. There is plenty of evidence to explain how people can be fooled into believing there IS a god, and absolutely none to support the belief that he exists. My moment of reckoning came tha day I uttered 4 words to myself and seriously considered the implications of these words. The words were, PERHAPS GOD ISN'T REAL. I discovered that these 4 words answered EVERY SINGLE QUESTION I had ever had about god, the bible, religion.... every single one of them can be answered with the words "perhaps god isn't real". And that is pretty convincing, pretty conclusive. If life were algebra I would have no doubt that this was the variable I had been looking for. I miss the closeness of my wonderful family. I miss feeling like I am respected and understood. I hate feeling that I have to keep what I feel and know in my heart to myself. It is a dreadfully empty and lonely place and there isn't a minute that passes that I don't wish things could be like they used to be. I'm not good at expressing any of this, especially to those blinded by religion, and in my case that is practically everyone on earth.

Your story is largely my story. You are not alone. As more information is made available, Christian belief is less and less tenable for more and more people. In short, the number of deconversions are exploding and will continue to do so. I believed for 40 years even went seminary and have one year of PhD studies in biblical theology. I can read the Bible in Hebrew and Greek- it was the intense, HONEST study of the bible and an honest, courageous look at my own experience of believing finally convinced me that...as you said...no supernatural, intentional deity exists. Millions believe he does (most never seriously question their assumptions) and it is the most meaningful thing in many people's lives....but that doesn't make it true. One of the few things I can say I know without question now is: there is no "meant to be". And yes, it is lonely at times.

It was the exact same thought about hell that lead to my deconversion as well. Down to the letter. I'm surprised that argument isn't being used more often. I guess it would just lead to the debate about objective moral values etc. However, it isn't really an argument against God's existence. I don't think we will ever be able to utter an argument that will lead people to not believe in God. But there are arguments that will show people that God's nature conflict with their inherent moral values. And if God has put his law into our hearts like Paul talks about, then why do I despite the thought of hell so strongly? Shouldn't it feel natural that eternal torture was the consequence of sin?

To the author of the video.... Your argument that it is better for God not to create the world knowing that most people will go to hell if He creates it is a bad argument. Evil and suffering exists in the world we live in. There is no denying this. God created the world knowing that there would be evil and suffering and hell for a purpose. The purpose is for God to demonstrate who He is in terms of his mercy, grace, forgiveness and justice. If there is no sin/evil, all of the latter wouldn't exist. But some might ask... How is it just for God to send people to hell for all eternity. It is just because people in hell will never stop sinning nor will they ever stop hating God. Infinite duration of sin leads to infinite duration of punishment. How is it any better to believe that God doesn't exist? Evil and suffering would serve no purpose and death and meaningless evil wins in the end You are worm food in the end and you sink into the abyss of nothingness when you no longer exist. It is neither bad or good for you It is not cognitive dissonance!

Its sad you were so busy comparing your life to your friends that you didnt focus on the necessary requirements of the faith. This life is short for those that accomplish everything and for those that have nothing. Christianity has incentives but at the end of the day, we must follow Christ because we love Him, and because we want to get to heaven, and because its mentally compelling to be a believer and think as a believer does.

@@bellezavudd Jesus tricked Satan into crucifying him (The Gospel Mark is a parable set on Earth while later Gospels are doctrinal warfare then believed as history): The pseudograph 2 Pet. 1:16 is pushback against people (likely a group of Xtians who we don't get to hear from) that are saying the Gospels are literary fabrications, and then forges an eyewitness account. Later in 2 Pet. 3:15-16 it mentions that there's things in Paul's letters that do not make sense, which is strange in light of 1 Cor. 3:2 & Heb. 5:12 in which converts are taught things easy to understand. Paul is adamant that his Gospel is not from humans, but from scripture, and visions/dreams (Gal. 1:11-12, :15-17, Rom. 15:4, 1 Cor. 15:3-8). A secret hidden through the ages now revealed (Rom. 16:25-26, 1 Cor. 2:6-7). Also Paul says his apostleship is by the same means as the founding Pillars (Gal. 2:6-9). Who in context of what Paul wrote would execute someone for being in human form? Phili. 2:6-8 "6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, 7 but emptied himself (Isa. 53:12), taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, 8 he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross." Who would NOT kill Jesus if it was made known to them that by doing so it would fulfill God's plan for mankind to have a chance at immortality? 1 Cor. 2:6-8 "6 Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to perish. 7 But we speak God's wisdom, secret and hidden, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." (Note: "rulers of this age" is reciprocal with Earthly & spiritual powers to the ancient reader) To Paul a physical resurrection does not inherit God's Kingdom (The Synoptics & John have a flesh resurrected Jesus). 1 Cor. 15:49 "49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we will also bear the image of the man of heaven. 50 What I am saying, brothers and sisters, is this: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I will tell you a mystery! We will not all die, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable body must put on imperishability, and this mortal body must put on immortality." Dirty, or impoverished clothing, and clean, or gleaming clothing were seen as metaphors for Earthly/spiritual bodies in the ancient world. (Mark 14:51-52 "A certain young man was following him, wearing nothing but a linen cloth. They caught hold of him, but he left the linen cloth and ran off naked.", 16:5 "As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed.") Rom. 4:25 "who was betrayed/handed over to death for our trespasses and was raised for our justification." Note: 1 Cor. 11:23 "betrayed" is contextually reciprocal with "handed over" in Greek (Rom. 1:24, :26, :28). The verse Rom. 1:3b "who was descended from David according to the flesh" (2 Sam. 7:12) is good evidence for historicity. But 2 Sam. 7:12c "who shall come forth from your body," can mean God made a flesh body from David's semen for Jesus (it was a belief that the male seed contained the whole body). This is a convenient way to fulfill messianic prophecy for a celestial event instead of on Earth. Zec. 3:1-9 "1 Then he showed me the high priest Joshua/Jesus (Savior) standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan (Adversary) standing at his right hand to accuse him. 2 And the LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, O Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this man a brand plucked from the fire?" 3 Now Joshua was dressed with filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. 4 The angel said to those who were standing before him, "Take off his filthy clothes." And to him he said, "See, I have taken your guilt away from you, and I will clothe you with festal apparel." 5 And I said, "Let them put a clean turban on his head." So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with the apparel; and the angel of the LORD was standing by. 6 Then the angel of the LORD assured Joshua, saying 7 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: If you will walk in my ways and keep my requirements, then you shall rule my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you the right of access among those who are standing here. 8 Now listen, Joshua, high priest, you and your colleagues who sit before you! For they are an omen of things to come: I am going to bring my servant the Branch. 9 For on the stone that I have set before Joshua, on a single stone with seven facets, I will engrave its inscription, says the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the guilt of this land in a single day." Zec. 6:11-13 "11 Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and set it on the head of the high priest Joshua son of Jehozadak (Savior Son of the Righteous God); 12 say to him: Thus says the LORD of hosts: Here is a man whose name is Branch: for he shall branch out in his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD. 13 It is he that shall build the temple of the LORD; he shall bear royal honor, and shall sit upon his throne and rule. There shall be a priest by his throne, with peaceful understanding between the two of them." Rom. 15:12 "12 and again Isaiah says, "The root of Jesse shall come, the one who rises to rule the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles shall hope." (Isa. 11:10 LXX). Isa. 11:1 "1 A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots." 1 Cor. 15:24-26 "24 Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after he has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death." Jos. 10:24-27 "24 When they brought the kings out to Joshua/Jesus, Joshua summoned all the Israelites, and said to the chiefs of the warriors who had gone with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." Then they came near and put their feet on their necks. (Psa. 110:1/1 Cor. 15:24-28, Rom. 16:20, Heb. 1:13, 2:5-9, 10:13) 25 And Joshua said to them, "Do not be afraid or dismayed; be strong and courageous; for thus the LORD will do to all the enemies against whom you fight." 26 Afterward Joshua struck them down and put them to death, and he hung them on five trees. And they hung on the trees until evening. 27 At sunset Joshua commanded, and they took them down from the trees and threw them into the cave where they had hidden themselves; they set large stones against the mouth of the cave, which remain to this very day. (Deut. 21:22-23/Gal. 3:13)" Image of God (2 Cor. 4:4, Phili. 2:6), Agent of creation (Rom. 11:36, 1 Cor. 8:6) Philo: THE SPECIAL LAWS, I "XVI ...Now the image of God is the Word, by which all the world was made..." Celestial high priest (Heb. 2:17, 4:14), God's Word (Heb. 1:3, 11:3), Firstborn son (Rom. 8:29) Philo: ON DREAMS, THAT THEY ARE GOD-SENT "XXXVII ...the high priest is the Divine Word, his own firstborn son." Five Kings= Five Senses (Flesh) Philo: ON ABRAHAM "XLI These things, then, are what are contained in the plain words of the scriptures. But as many as are able to contemplate the facts related in them in their incorporeal and naked state, living rather in the soul than in the body, will say that of the nine kings (Gen.14:1-2) the four are the powers of the four passions which exist within us, the passion of pleasure, of desire, of fear, and of grief; and that the other five kings are the outward senses, being equal in number, the sense of sight, of hearing, of smell, of taste, and of touch. For these in some degree are sovereigns and rulers, having acquired a certain power over us, but not all to an equal extent; for the five are subordinate to the four, and are compelled to pay them taxes and tribute, such as are appointed by nature. For it is from the things which we see, or hear, or smell, or taste, or touch, that pleasures, and pains, and fears, and desires arise; as there is no one of the passions which has any power to exist of itself, if it were not supplied by the materials furnished by the outward senses." Philo: WHO IS THE HEIR OF DIVINE THINGS "XXXVIII ...Now, the craters of the sense of seeing are the eyes, those of hearing are the ears, those of smelling are the nostrils, and so on with the appropriate receptacles for each of the senses. On these craters the sacred word pours a portion of blood, thinking it right that the irrational part of us should become endowed with soul and vitality, ...purifying itself from the deceitful alluring powers of the objects of the outward sense which aim to overcome it." Philo: QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ON GENESIS, III "(51) What is the meaning of, “And it shall be my covenant (or agreement) in your flesh?” (Gen. 17:13). God is willing to do good, not only to the man who is endued with virtue, but he wishes that the Divine Word should regulate not only his soul but his body also, as if it had become its physician. And it must be its care to prune away all excesses of seeing, and hearing, and taste, and smell, and touch, and also those of the instrument of voice and articulation, and also all the redundant and pernicious impulses of the genitals, (morning cross? Rom. 7:23) as also of the whole body, the effect of which is, that at times we are delighted by our passions and at times pained by them."

Very properly, therefore, when he has arrived at the external sense, he is represented no longer as meeting God, but only the divine word,..." Empties (Kenosis) Himself (Phili. 2:7-8) Philo: Who is The Heir To Divine Things "XLI ...but in real fact for the whole world which was created by divine wisdom may be consecrated and dedicated, being made a burnt offering of early in the morning and also in the evening. For such a life as this becomes the world, namely, continually and without ceasing to be giving thanks to its Father and Creator, so as to stop short of nothing but evaporating and reducing itself into its original element, in order to show that it stores up and conceals nothing, but dedicates itself wholly as a pious offering to God who created it." Born of a Woman/Under the Law (Gal. 4:4b), Wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24b) Philo: ON FLIGHT AND FINDING "XX ...For we say that the high priest (Jos. 20:1-6) is not a man, but is the Word of God, who has not only no participation in intentional errors, but none even in those which are involuntary. For Moses says that he cannot be defiled neither in respect of his father, that is, the mind, nor his mother, that is, the external sense; "He shall not go where there is a dead body; he shall not defile himself even for his father or mother." (Lev. 21:11) because, I imagine, he has received imperishable and wholly pure parents, God being his father, who is also the father of all things, and Wisdom being his mother, by means of whom the universe arrived at creation (Prov. 3:19-20, 8:22-31); and also because he is anointed with oil, by which I mean that the principal part of him is illuminated with a light like the beams of the sun, so as to be thought worthy to be clothed with garments. And the most ancient Word of the living God is clothed with the word (Law) as with a garment, for it has put on earth, and water, and air, and fire, and the things which proceed from those elements. ...Nor will he “rend his clothes;” (Lev. 21:10) for the Word of the living God being the bond of every thing, as has been said before, holds all things together, and binds all the parts, and prevents them from being loosened or separated." Philo: A Treatise Concerning The World "II ...But the eternal law of the everlasting God is the strong and lasting support of the universe. This law being extended from the centre of the world to its furthest extremities, and again back from its extremities to the centre, moves on in the unwearied irresistible course of nature, uniting and binding together all the parts of the universe. For the Father who established it made it to be the indissoluble bond of the universe. Therefore we are naturally led to conclude that the whole earth will not be dissolved by water, which its bosoms contain; nor again will fire be extinguished by the air, nor again will the air be burnt up and consumed by fire, since the divine law has placed itself as a boundary to keep all these elements distinct from one another."

@@bellezavudd The High Priest's headdress had a crown representing a plant known for it's hallucinogenic properties at which a golden plate covered the forehead. On said golden plate was inscribed sacred characters for the name of God. Josephus: THE ANTIQUITIES OF THE JEWS, BOOK 3, CHAPTER 7 (172-178), CONCERNING THE GARMENTS ...OF THE HIGH PRIEST "6. The high priest's mitre was the same that we described before, and was wrought like that of all the other priests; above which there was another, with swathes of blue embroidered, and round it was a golden crown polished, of three rows, one above another; out of which arose a cup of gold, which resembled the herb which we call Saccharus: but those Greeks that are skilful in botany call it Hyoscyamus. ...Now the fruit is preserved by this coat of the calyx, which fruit is like the seed of the herb Sideritis: it sends out a flower that may seem to resemble that of poppy. Of this was a crown made, as far as from the hinder part of the head to each of the temples; but this Ephielis, for so this calyx may be called, did not cover the forehead, but it was covered with a golden plate, which had inscribed upon it the name of God in sacred characters. And such were the ornaments of the high priest." Hyoscyamus Niger " ...was historically used..., as well as for its psychoactive properties in "magic brews". These psychoactive properties include visual hallucinations and a sensation of flight. ...The plant, recorded as Herba Apollinaris, was used to yield oracles by the priestesses of Apollo." wiki/Hyoscyamus_niger Philippians 3:5 "5 circumcised on the eighth day, a member of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee;" 2 Corinthians 12:1-4 "1 It is necessary to boast; nothing is to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven - whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows. 3 And I know that such a person - whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows - 4 was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat." Philo: THE SPECIAL LAWS, III "I There was once a time when, devoting my leisure to philosophy and to the contemplation of the world and the things in it, I reaped the fruit of excellent, and desirable, and blessed intellectual feelings, being always living among the divine oracles and doctrines, on which I fed incessantly and insatiably, to my great delight, never entertaining any low or grovelling thoughts, nor ever wallowing in the pursuit of glory or wealth, or the delights of the body, but I appeared to be raised on high and borne aloft by a certain inspiration of the soul, and to dwell in the regions of the sun and moon, and to associate with the whole heaven, and the whole universal world. At that time, therefore, looking down from above, from the air, and straining the eye of my mind as from a watch-tower, I surveyed the unspeakable contemplation of all the things on the earth, and looked upon myself as happy as having forcibly escaped from all the evil fates that can attack human life. ...Behold, therefore, I venture not only to study the sacred commands of Moses, but also with an ardent love of knowledge to investigate each separate one of them, and to endeavour to reveal and to explain to those who wish to understand them, things concerning them which are not known to the multitude." Earth man & Heaven man (aka the "two Adams") (Rom. 5:14-19, 1 Cor. 15:21-22, :45-49) Philo: ALLEGORICAL INTERPRETATION, I "XIV “And God planted a paradise in Eden, in the east: and there he placed the man whom he had Formed:” (Gen. 2:8) for he called that divine and heavenly wisdom by many names; and he made it manifest that it had many appellations; for he called it the beginning (Gen. 1:1), and the image, and the sight of God. ...the plantation of this paradise is represented in the east; for right reason never sets, and is never extinguished, but it is it's nature to be always rising. And as I imagine, the rising sun fills the darkness of the air with light, so also does virtue when it has arisen in the soul, irradiate its mist and dissipate the dense darkness." Note: Check out Gen. 2:8 & Gen. 2:15. God twice puts a man in Eden. One man is God's self taught firstborn (to tend to the Tree Life? Gen. 2:9b, 3:22c, :24c), and the other man is Adam to cultivate the garden for it's celestial virtues (to learn). It's confusing thanks to the way the first five books of the Bible were put together, but they (Paul/Philo) talk about two separate beings in Eden. Gen. 2:8 "8 And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east; and there he put the man whom he had formed." Gen. 2:15 "15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it." "According to the documentary hypothesis there were four sources, each originally a separate and independent book (a "document"), joined together at various points in time by a series of editors ("redactors")." wiki/Documentary_hypothesis The first creation story always and only refers to God as Elohim (Gen. 1:1a "when God"). The second creation story always refers to God as Yahweh, or Yahweh Elohim (Gen. 2:4b "the LORD God"), but never as Elohim alone. The doublets in the creation story influenced Philo's perception, and philosophy on scripture. Note when Philo sees scripture refer to God as Lord it's the archangel of many names. Philo: THE SPECIAL LAWS, I "LVI...Do you not see that the most important and greatest of all the powers of the living God are his beneficent and his punishing power? And his beneficent power is called God, since it is by means of this that he made and arranged the universe. And the other, or punishing power, is called Lord, on which his sovereignty over the universe depends. And God is God, not only of men, but also of gods; and he is mighty, being truly strong and truly Powerful." Philo: ON FLIGHT AND FINDING "XIX ...The images of the cities of command and prohibition are the laws in the ark; that of the merciful power of God is the covering of the ark, and he calls it the mercy- seat. The images of the creative power and of the kingly power are the winged cherubim which are placed upon it. But the divine word which is above these does not come into any visible appearance, inasmuch as it is not like to any of the things that come under the external senses, but is itself an image of God, the most ancient of all the objects of intellect in the whole world, and that which is placed in the closest proximity to the only truly existing God, without any partition or distance being interposed between them: for it is said, “I will speak unto thee from above the mercyseat, in the midst, between the two Cherubim.” (Exo. 25:22) So that the word is, as it were, the charioteer of the powers, and he who utters it is the rider, who directs the charioteer how to proceed with a view to the proper guidance of the universe."

Christianity is much more than a bunch of christian duties. This is probably why most christian a good 85% believe they will get saved because they do certain things like giving offerings and going to church or reading the bible. Religious Christianity is easy to obtain and practise but its a weak chain that can be broken with both hands with little strength. Spiritual Christianity is a steel wall that cannot be moved and is impossible to penetrate,

Is he saying he does not SIN? Did the Apostle Paul go to Hell too? Or is he just like us, the cheif of sinners? I understand your moral objections to Hellfire. I disagree with God on this all the time. Bottom line is we are all crippled by sin and only a miracle, ie God himself can CHANGE YOU, ME and the APOSTLE PAUL. I can't change myself either.

Just because your gay doesn’t mean your going to hell. Although, it is a sin, isn’t that why Jesus died on the cross for us? As long as you still believe and have accepted him, you won’t suffer the same fair as someone who has refused the gift and denied his existence

So your deconversion was spurred solely due to emotion and not because you value evidence, logic, and reasoning? If that is true than that's fine (though some atheist might argue that you're not a "true" atheist), but it might be easier for you to go back to superstition if you found one that's compatible with your emotional and moral beliefs.

+Bob Jones If you're reply is to William bROWN...then to be fair they called themselves an "Awakening spiritual person." They never imply they no longer believe in the supernatural. But you're right, this type of person will also probably be brainwashed by some other cult if it makes them "feel" good about themselves.

Initial deconversion: yes. But if you listened to the latter half of the video you would have heard him explain the great deal of apologetic effort he put forward in trying to defend his initial beliefs.

Bob Jones there's far too many ways to arrive at critical thinking, and different people have different lives that organize around the need and validity of their beliefs in different ways. What matters imo is the arrival itself.
