Don't get me wrong, it's a great film , when look back Gene Hackman career, he won't be remembered for this, But Gene Hackman he a is Superb actor and he also Superb in this film.

I love this scene, and if you recall, later in the film when they call in the witness that these guys fail to get, the dude on trial does that move with his tie and collar, classic. Hackman is the best, happy 94th birthday sir!

Mammaw bought it on vhs when it came out and I watched it when I was 13 and to this day I never tire of it I’m 28 now and still watch it in the same vhs

I bought this DVD off Ebay but I vaguely seeing it a long time ago this is one of the best scenes of good guy versus the bad guys trying out smart each other, good film 🙂

So many great lines in this scene! Also: "People should have fun at work, it makes the day go quicker." "He says he thinks we can make a deal." "Are you thinking of becoming a lawyer?" "Does he speak?" "You'll never get that far ahead even if you work another 30 years. And then there's always the possibility that you won't survive that long." "I don't like people like you." Great writing and great delivery.

It's amusing to think how things have changed since this movie came out. Now, of course, with cell phones, communication would've been the least of Caulfield's worries.

@@bwaters735 It would not just be his phone. They destroyed the communication system so that if they killed the woman and her body was found on the train, then the crew would have no method of radioing ahead so it would not be until they reached a stop that they could call it in, thus the two hit men would leave at that point. What they did not want to happen was for the train to slow down and when it stopped there would be helicopters overhead and the train swarming with police. Today, if her body would be found then numerous calls would be made, as all crewmembers have cell phones, and the train would make an unexpected stop in an open area with helicopters overhead and police all over the train. Plus with cameras everywhere all passengers are photographed when boarding and/or buying tickets so I'm sure the RCMP and FBI will be able to id them within a day, I'm sure they are known to law enforcement agencies.

No more stops before Vancouver and they know he has the woman on the train. So what's to be gained by paying? Even if they agree on a deal and he gives her to them they still have to wait to get to Vancouver.

Before I get to my main point. I loved this film, let's get that out of the way. If I was going change anything about this movie, they should have let J.T.Walshe.R.I.P play the bad guy in this movie instead of James b Skikking. I can't believe J.T. Walshe.R.I.P only got 20 minutes in this film. Even before he died he played a bad guy in a movie called Breakdown 7 years latter.
