What genre of music are you focused on right now? If you shifted, what genre of music would you be interested in making?

My current genre is Soundtrack, and I don't intend to change it yet, even if I don't make video games. Soundtrack has a higher degree of flexibility than other genres, I think.

After years playing in small punk bands and going folk, this sounds a lot like what I'm up to

Inspiring stuff - and really relatable. I’d been playing guitar in a pop-punk band for years and more recently in a folk-punk band. Over the pandemic I’ve basically re-learned piano having not played since I was about 10 years old and been writing vastly different material (more like Billy Joel/Tom Odell than Green Day). I’ve been having the same concerns about whether the connections I’ve built up over the years would reject the new venture I’m wanting to start, and I’ve been feeling the pressure to have a huge amount of material ready, as well as the doubts as to age and my full time job, not to mention a lack of confidence in myself. Thanks for the great content and advice - I think this is the kick up the backside I needed, no more excuses!

Heya, thank you so much! this helped a lot. I'm just about to release my music in my 30s but I believe. Appreciate these and been listening to your content for the longest time. (My apologies, I just subbed but on my 'personal' I've been watching for a while, haha.

What if we don't want to deviate from our hardcore punk sound? We hear too many times there's no money in our genre

Don’t deviate from it. If it’s in your soul to have that sound, keep it that way. Get your money from making & selling really cool-looking DIY merch. I hear fashion isn’t really as big in the hardcore scene, but at the very least having a lot of sick T-shirts, wristbands, & zines would be cool. I know a lot of bands survive on shirt & hoodie sales.

Stick to what makes you happy. Like @Lainey Lavender said find other ways to make sure you have a solid income and push that genre as far as you can. Not saying there isn't money in the genre but insulate yourself and find ways to make an income off of it no matter what.

Ben Moreland came from a punk/metal background. He makes Americana/alt-country. I also came from one and make the same kinda music as John. Lots of the alt-country crowd came from being punks or hardcore kids. Hell, I was in a grindcore band and now I play sad sack of shit songs.

Is there anyone who actually achieve something meaningful rather than couple of hundreds views on YT?🤔

My students have racked up over 25 million streams and several are making over $100,000 a year with loads more working full time in the industry. Congrats on trying to shit on someone’s accomplishments though.

Wanted to chime in here. After working with Adam I’ve had multiple labels, managers, and promoters reach out wanting to work with me. Also recently signed an international distribution deal with major label connections. To add on top of that, 400,000+ streams, a top 5 single, and interviews/features on very high profile news outlets. This all happened because of what Adam taught me and motivated me to do.
