Kronsteen. Played by Vladek Sheybal, a Polish actor who twice escaped from Nazi concentration camps and who later emigrated to England in 1959. His credits in Polish performances were enough for him to be cast in British TV and movie productions. Although a naturalised UK citizen, he remained fiercely proud of his Polish roots. On a personal note, he always played believable characters, with dimension. I never saw him play a bad role.

This is probably the coolest that SPECTRE has ever been to me, a brilliantly voiced and mysterious Blofeld, two charismatic and interesting lackeys, and none of the cartoonish trapping we'd get later (though I do enjoy that stuff.) It's kind of weird to have the villains outline their entire plan long before the hero will find it out, but it's pretty satisfying to see them do it, and emphasises how intelligent and calculating the organisation is.

I really love this scene in the books too, because it shows Kronsteen's thoughts behind his "Wizard of Ice" persona. After receiving the secret orders, he decides to finish the game first. A subtle detail that makes a minor antagonist much more human in the reader's eyes.

The shot where Klebb moves to and from the aquarium at 2:35 and 3:17 respectively was originally shot as one, with her standing up from the aquarium and moving over to Blofeld's desk with a slight camera pan. They later found they also wanted to show her moving towards the aquarium in the beginning, so they took that entire shot, split it into two, and played the part where she stood up in reverse to make it seem like she's kneeling down to the aquarium. You can see that the middle part, where she still faces the aquarium during the camera pan while moving from / to the desk plays at both time stamps.

Ah, back when Blofeld was a force to be reckoned with, and not Bond's Cuckoo step brother. I've never noticed how creepy the cabin in this scene really is. Would like to know who the golden bust is in the background and the weird demon looking mural behind Kronsteen.

This was far and away the best bond film. The is the bond movie that really didnt require you to suspendbmuch of your disbelief. The characters were believable and the plot wasbt outlandish.

Yes, made so in large measure because both this film and the equally plausible OHMSS were highly faithful to Fleming’s novels.

@@michaelschramm1064 I am happy the newer bond films are closer to this. But, they can go a step further. Make the villains and conflict believable. For instance, a drug Baron as the main villain in the next one. Next, ditch the Walther PPK for something like a SIG P938 for Bond's new sidearm, 9mm for the purpose of scavenging. Have him make mention of this when meeting with Q. Finally, make him more brusque. The Fleming Bond really didn't like his job much. Because he was so aware of his role and capabilities as an In case of fire, break glass kind of guy, he did what he could when he tried talking his superiors out of using him for their bright ideas using the devil's advocate approach. In other words, like most SOF operators, he would rather be doing something else. Make his behavior and dialogue emphasize this. These are some of the ways you not only modernize bond, you make him more faithful to the original Fleming Bond

@@charlesshankle3178 Good points. “You Only Live Twice” could have been a far more memorable and intelligent film had producers retained more of Fleming’s material in his superb novel. Dikko Henderson and Tiger Tanaka are far more worldly and knowledgeable and there was excellent passages on the geopolitical landscape as it pertains to East/West relations and customs.

@@michaelschramm1064 you're absolutely correct. Bad script writing killed that movie. Tim Dalton stayed most faithful to the Fleming Bond and that is how he should be played in the future. We need to avoid the CGI mess of the Brosnan Bond and the comedic pseudo sci-fi of Moore Bond. Rely more on plot and script than gadgets and CGI

@@charlesshankle3178 I’ve always appreciated Dalton’s portrayal of James Bond-he actually bothered to read Fleming and if you’ve ever read “The Living Daylights”, you can’t help but notice that his interpretation of 007 is uncannily faithful and accurate.
