Anneliese Marie 'Anne' Frank (12 June 1929 - February/March 1945) was a German-born Jewish girl who wrote while in hiding with her family and four friends in Amsterdam during the German occupation of the Netherlands during World War II. She was migrated to Holland at the age of four, where she joined the Montessori School. She started writing a lively diary when she was thirteen. Two years later, on 4th August 1944, Anne was taken to a concentration camp along with her mother and sister. She died in 1945 of typhus in Bergen-Belsen. Her father Otto, the only survivor of the group, got her diary published in 1947 as "The Diary of a Young Girl. She describes her childhood and some anecdotes in school. It is a wonderfully observational account by a thirteen-year-old.
