I think they were led astray. They never had a chance, which feels like they were setup. I was excited by the series and then was disappointed that I learned nothing about their training. Just how many hours a day, some basic idea of the structure of the training. Diet? Hard to fantasize along with them when I know nothing of what they did. There are other "reach" events that they might have had a shot at and would have been amazing to accomplish.

I’ve done Leadville myself and I honestly didn’t think either of them had a chance to complete the race. That said, I’m truly inspired by their grit and determination and never quit attitude. I got really choked up as each was pulled from the race. I’ve witnessed that in person and it’s heartbreaking. But we’ve got three more mountain bikers in our gang! I hope they stick with it and it’s cool to hear that Enzo is pursuing more races. Happy trails all!

I've been to Leadville many times crewing, pacing and just watching both the running and bike races. It's always those who think they might not be able to do it that inspire me. The crowd then inspires them and the circle continues. Hitting 50 this year, I always wanted to actually either run or ride the race to see how I'd do. Last year I ran my first marathon, but soon after, my arch collapsed and I haven't been able to run since. I've been riding and trying to overcome the pain in the foot just to ride. Watching these people start from nothing and WORK their way toward as MASSIVE goal is inspiring. It takes guts just to accept the challenge, more to work towards it, and even more to tow the line at the start. Kudos to these 3 and Ryan and Alexey and Canyon for making it all happen! One of these days, maybe I'll be there, somewhere at the back of the pack, wondering if I can actually finish this thing, or if I can at least put it all out there and see what happens.

Why does this series have so few views. Really interesting progression. These three deserve a lot of credit for evening joining the program. I think Leadville 100 would be a challenge for any rider let alone someone with 6 months of riding under their belt.

I've been riding, racing, and competing all my life. Everything from BMX, MTB, Road, you name it and been around many aspects of the bike industry for 30 years. This is one of the most inspiring, heartfelt and honest stories I've ever seen. Riding can be such a joy and something wonderful to share with friends both old and new. But it can also be hell! Roberta, Shawna, and Enzo- BRAVO. You are true heroes!

This show illustrates something - six months is not enough time for un-trained people with normal lives/jobs to develop an aerobic system needed for Leadville. Both the younger cyclists were not able to do it. The older cyclist had two problems - aerobically unfit and carrying around too much fat weight (30+ pounds?) Not a realistic goal. These three athletes seem to be wonderful people. I hope they continue cycling.

Kudos on such a great series! The Leadville 100 story is unique and inspiring for every person either as a competitor or a volunteer. To have the grit and determination to toe that line at the start is massive! And, to go from nothing to where Shawna, Roberta, and Enzo went is super inspiring. I first discovered the LT 100 in 2011 when I got my first road bike and my first trainer. I spent hours pedaling on the trainer watching the Race Across the sky series. To Volunteer and see Roxanne Hall at the top of Columbine where I was volunteering for my shot at this race next year, Well, that was a dream! I have been sold out to mountain and road biking since I was a teen and now as I approach 48, I have taken the necessary steps to make this massive race my goal for next year or which ever year after which I am selected. Thanks for the inspiration and the message!

Six months to learn to ride and finish the Leadville 100? Absurd!! I was pulling for all three to finish and it made for excellent “TV”, but Outside set unrealistic goals. Did these three do any long road rides? Did they finish any Centuries at normal altitudes as training? Were any short mtb races included along the way? Racing 100 miles at 9000 to 12,000 feet is not trivial!!

incredible.. inspirational to watch these journeys. I lived in Snowmass and Aspen for 2 years, the first 3 months at elevation was a significant challenge to acclimate, I could not imagine going from the east cost to Leadville and riding through town much less racing to a higher altitude even with training at sea level. high elevation changes you, being acclimated take way more than a few days or weeks. being fit at elevation and going to sea level is like being super human, going from sea level to elevation is so difficult. their accomplishments are impressive.

None of those 3 had a chance in that race based on their respective sports backgrounds. Nice premise for a TV show but if you ever done an endurance race you'll know just how much training, experience, technical skills, etc. it takes to do well. Kudos to them for trying.

I hate to sound negative but this type of endurance to do Leadville requires years of training. Maybe if they started with someone who has had experience running or swimming. Still they really did as good as they could and really tried. Seems like Leadville has really tough cut off times. Other races have cut off times double of what the elite riders do.

Great job on the part of the three riders, but I think they were very much let down by their coaches. Not one made even the first cutoff. They were way under prepared for such a highly demanding race.

@@Johnny-Utah-91 I don’t think it’s fair to measure success/failure based on completing Leadville. I’d look more at progress, and I suppose FTGU feels underdogs are more relatable and make for better stories - with the risk of no one finishing, which is fine. That said, to close the loop on my experience, turns out if you have the fitness base but never rode trails, you can absolutely complete Leadville with not much practice on trails. Barely made it, and it wasn't smooth - so I'm curious how things would have looked with even just a little help and the right gear. kzitem.info/news/bejne/xIupn2uIiYihpXo
