That paint job came out fantastic. Love those honest old 80s road bikes, and you could tell the previous owner knew what they were doing with that mix of parts.

Bruh this is SICK!!!! These are the types of bikes that should be worth some money and not some factory BS or some brand just because it has a "name brand". My goal is to make bikes from scratch eventually and this is mad inspiration. Thanks!

Awesome build! Great job putting some life into the bike, that paint work is wild. One minor nitpick, the rear brake cable housing should be routed on the opposite side of the head tube, it won't rub on the frame as much, steering will be less biased, and gives the cables a symmetrical look from the front. Outstanding work overall, that is sweet rig

Very nice. Great idea to create that marble look. A nice wax after the paint drys out and before the clear coat helps from chipping off too. Clean look !

Nice, never seen that method done with ink before. You should "faux braze" (highlight the edges of all the lugs with gold paint) It would hide the poor masking and add a touch of class. I've known people use nail varnish/polish to good effect, is basically paint anyway.

DePues, try the Sheldon Brown b bracket cup extraction. It works great. Put a big hardware store bolt and 4 lock washers into the cup, and tighten a standard nut on the outside. Tighten hard with a socket and box wrench then blast it off with an impact wrench at the tire shop if it hasnt already let you bust it with an old seatpost for a cheater bar. I've gotten many out with a big socket and cheater pipe.

I rarely re use loose cup B B s, but if I do, i either drill holes for a spray grease straw, or fill the shell with red lucas grease. I love cartridge bbs esp the internal thread type that repair bikes with wasted threads.

Really appreciate the efforts in this video and the introduction of new (to me) methods, and now I'm thinking about using the masking fluid with a stencil before spray-painting. Wondering if it will work as a reverse decal??

It seems to be a good method to mask. The only thing it was not good at was being able to cut or trim it. Otherwise, it's very versatile.

I had a bike in the 80's with 600 Arabesque groupset, except the brakes which were the same as yours. Still hate them so much. Chainrings where 54/45 (still got them) and 6 speed cassette 12-21 and I live in a very hilly area. That was a common gearing back then. Were people stronger in those days?

Major improvement. This paint job looks INCREDIBLE! You are an artist!! I love the thoughtful white accents throughout (cables, lugs, tape etc.). Your video and audio are high quality too, not often is someone this handy in the shop AND on the computer. Well done!! My question is: do you trust your clear coat enough to ride this beauty?? Also, more generally, what does someone DO with pieces like this? Do you usually sell them? Hang them on the wall? Sunday joy rides??
@DePuesshop
9 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words!! To answer your question, I would definitely trust the clear coat to ride it. I think bikes are meant to ride and not just be a show piece. Generally, with the bikes I build, I ultimately try to sell them because I have way too many sitting around. There are a few that I like too much to sell and keep them for a while.

@ErrybodyGetTypsy The clear coat is just rustoleum. Nothing special. I'm sure there are much better options out there.
