Fun fact: In Dutch to be declared "vogelvrij" ("free as a bird") means the old punishment of being outlawed and having your rights taken away so you may be killed without consequence for your killer. Interesting to contrast with how we often see a bird being free, being able to fly over walls, not wanting to be in a cage, etc. Especially in the context of this show.

The thing that makes this show special is that in almost every other story there is a source of evil that want to make harm. The goal is to cause suffering. In this story, we have a bunch of different parties trying their very best to do good to the world, and by doing so they are causing a lot of unnecessary pain and mountains of harm.

If your wondering about the 9 titan powers comes from founder Ymir soul, it is actually all of her titan abilities devided into 9. 1. Colosal = Muscle 2. Armored = Skin 3. Female = Gender 4. Beast = Unnatural feature/appearance 5. Jaw = Sharp teeth and claw 6. Cart = Endurance 7. Warhammer = Bone 8. Attack Titan = her will/will to seek freedom 9. Founding titan/ Coordinate = super natural power to her direct linage (royal blood) I hope it helps

To me, one of the main lessons to take away from this story (and perhaps overlooked by many) is how many cycles of hatred and revenge that exist irl are perpetuated by indoctrination on things that happened ages ago... To a point when no one who actually lived them is alive today to tell what really happened. Eren Krueger said it best: "Anyone can become a god or a devil. All it takes is for someone else to believe it." Humanity overall just lacks perspective, compassion and empathy, even to this day (it's a bleak reality, but Isayama portrays it very well in this story).

The way you feel conflicted over Eren: that's all Isayama's authorial intent. That part of you that identifies with and supports season 1 Eren's desire for freedom, justice, and vindication, THAT is the part of you that Isayama wants you to second-guess, moderate, and consider restraining; it is that part of us - however attractive - that leads us toward our most violent instincts. It's the reason that season 1 glorifies everything Eren does. He slaughters "animals that look like humans"; he becomes a "symbol of hope". And if we emulate that role model, we too "discard our humanity" to defeat "monsters".

Eldians = Germanic tribes (obvious enough) Marleyans = Romans…Notice modern names and cities are of Latin origin. Niccolo, Liberio, etc.

The parasite is inspired from the Hallucigenia, one of the first creature to exist on earth. It's our far ancestor. It's able to change form when needed, to adapt to everything. You could call that the origin of life. For the nine, it will be never explained why nine. But titan's powers are in the spinal fluid. So, we soppose that : by eating their mom, Rose, Maria and Sina splited the power in three. We could guess that they made children and were eaten the same way, until there were nine titan's shifters. But at some point, they decided to stop spliting the power, and made only one person inheriting the powers. So... Ymir was not an Eldian. The "devil" Marley hate is not even Eldian. Ironic, isn't it ? She was a mere slave who bow to the first king of the tribe Eldia. And both Marley and Eldians were right, Eldians used titans to conquer nations and to help people by building bridges and roads.... Some believe the Attack Titan was created by Ymir to rebel against the king. That's exactly why she gave it the power to transcend time, because she knew Eren will come and free her after 2000 years, creating a story where the end is determined and can't change. And the title thing with the 2000 years. It's a message sent through time, between Eren and Ymir. Ymir sent him a vision in the very first episode of the show, and Eren only answered her at this episode we are watching. Everything came in full circle. Ymir and Eren are the begenning and the ending of the story, the opposite characters but with the same will for freedom. They were linked since the very begenning, as a reflect of each others. You could say it's destiny of fate. But this is more complex than that. You'll understand by continuing watching the show.

who could have guessed Titans came from the origin of life? such a satisfying explanation and definitely not a deus ex machina cop out

Remember of what happens when Ymir was once free? 3 arrows stuck into her. You have the same theory as me about how of Ymir loss her will to live and finally die even she’s a titan shifter who can regenerate indefinitely was due to King Fritz heartless word

Remember the fight with Annie? He said he'd destroy the world.
We don't quite realise it, but Ymir's titan form is approximately 200 meters tall. If regular titans are terrifying, imagine what Marley soldiers felt.

There's an interesting parallel in this episode that I rarely see being talked about. When Grisha reveals the power of the Attack Titan, he says that "it was all for this moment, to fight the self-righteousness of the king". There are two kings called "Fritz"; the first one enslaved Ymir both in life and in death, by using her three daughters (Rose, Maria, Siina) to extend the power of the founding titan. The other one enslaved all subjects of Ymir, her descendants, by trapping them within the walls (Rose, Maria, Siina) and removing their memories with the power of the founding titan.

Maybe people don't talk about that because it isn't interesting? They have the same name... they were both kings... they did different stuff... and that's it.

@@rumfordc You failed to grasp the fact that it completely redefines Ymir's actions. If she wanted to get revenge on the FIRST King, why would she rule the world with Titans just like he wanted it?

@@rumfordc Otherwise she wouldn't have allowed Eren to use her powers. Regardless of the atrocious retcon the series got later, it stand against reason to imply she was fulfilling his wishes when she did what she did to protect her descendants. Even with the awful ending it's implied she knew she should have killed him and left with her daughters back then.

@@caiobruno8006 it is written into the script that she follows their orders. this would be the ultimate protection for her descendants, if that's really what she cares about. why would she be fine with euthing everyone but not fine with improving them? eren had to go out of his way to stop her from obeying. simply make the desired changes before releasing her and the problem could be solved.

Some guy made a calculation that ymir spent 6 million years inside that place due to time dilation. I don't care what any one says Eren was so good he finally gave her strength to make her own decision 😢. The most suffered person of this whole story is that inosent girl ymir. I hope her soul got rest and peace. And fuck Annie.
