A walk through of the rebuild of a front hub including hub bearing adjustment and drive shaft end float, on a Land Rover Defender, manufactured from 1998 onwards . . . . . , SHOW MORE for Torque settings.
Although this video tutorial is specific to a 1998-on Defender, the principle is the same for many 4x4 vehicles.
In this video we replace the Hub, Calliper and Brake pads.
Carrying out adjustments and checks to:
Hub Bearing Load Adjustment
Drive shaft End Float
And finally bleeding the brakes (pipe and jar method)
Torque figures:
Hub Nut,
1. Torque to 23 lbf ft (30 Nm) then spin the hub to settle the bearings.
2. Final torque to 148 - 163 lbf ft (200 - 220 Nm) , spin and then measure end float.
3. If adjusting and replacing shim spacers repeat the above process.
Calliper securing bolts, 60 lbf ft (82 Nm)
Hub drive flange bolts 48 lbf ft (65 Nm)
Road Wheel,
Steel wheels 80lbf ft (100 Nm)
Alloy wheels 95 lbf ft (130 Nm)
Heavy duty wheels 125 lbf ft (170Nm)
