I train only on the flip, my vertical come from training a lot the same move over and over again. The momentum from my arms swing help me to lift higher, I push the ground throught all my legs to the toes, and I rotate at the peak of my height for maximum performance. Is not realy a question of power, but rather a question of timing*. Hope it help you guys just practice and practice.

those of you learing to backflip/front flip do it on a trampoline or go to a gymnastics training center and do it there, your form will improve, you'll be more confidence and you don't have to worry so much about snapping your neck. and plus at the gymnastics place, the teachers would more or less be able to help you out on what your doing wrong...

Thats a good way of thinking about it actually. The idea with tucking the chin in is to get a smaller tuck, which will make you rotate faster, less air resistance along with other things. The legs thing ill have to try myself :P

In my gym we have a tumble run but our actual floor isnt sprung so we know how difficult this is! exspesh when your trying to teach it on 2 surfaces.

I started backflip on a small hill facing the uphill if you dont rotate enought at least you fall back with the slope of the downhill. You are a little higher from the ground it give you extra time to complete the rotation and if you get hurt the slope help you to absorb the shock. more easy than flat floor to begin but still hard feeling under your feet. hope you understand what i writed lol im french

Back flip is easier and much more usefull than a frontflip, because of your legs anatomy is harder to spin foward than backward, but people fear to flip backward... I learn frontflip first when I had 7yrs old in a kiddy sandbox lo0l (I was truly a fan of Jackie XD). For the backflip I learn it 2-3years ago, I was 15-16.

Im sry, but I try differents techniques and this is the best way to rotate faster because im kicking behind my knee with my arms that force my entire body to rotate + my own strength. Take a stick throw it verticaly, then strike it at the bottom, the stick will rotate crazy right. I took this concept into my backflip =) The spin is in fact faster in realtime than on camera
