Drove to the Hayes Mansion for an event yesterday and ended up getting lost on Saddlesomething Street then saw Frontier Village Condos. Kinda got me teary eyed. Used to go to Frontier Village with my family.

I worked at Frontier Village 1974-75 and attended the park many times as a child too. Your Father ran a *clean*,quality, fun park. Still recall he inspected the park everyday before the park opened. A degree of quality throughout. Let's put it this way, teenagers and young adults formed long lines to just get a chance at being an employee for FV.

I can clearly remember our last visit when I bought some popcorn and saw the wad of singles the vendor had. I then promptly ran to my Grandmother all excited that the park had plenty of money now and wouldn't need to close.

worked shooting gallery, also car ride, lost Dutchman mine and assisted the ladies with hook removal on busy days at the trout farm. 1974-75 Btw, they had kick ass company parties at Frontier Village...kegs of beer flowed. However, no gang fights or big distubances. The men who played the sheriffs and bad guys were actually security for the park.

What a find! This brings back some great memories -- not to mention "Evening"'s Jan and Richard, beloved reminders of a happy Bay Area childhood. Many thanks!

This was a cool place and there is nothing like it today in the bay area. If this place was alive today fixed up it would be making money. The times were good too pepole walking around having fun and if you look hard enough nobody is on the damm cell phone.

My dad, Allen Weitzel is featured in this clip which is partly why I posted it. I have clear memories of this park, even though I was only 5 years old when it closed. See my other videos for more rare Frontier Village footage.

With all the redevelopment going on in the Valley, It's no wonder it met its demise. Sadly, I'd never been there, but friends I've spoke to said it was in decline. One said he met his wife there as she worked there at the time.

I asked dad this afternoon about the proceeds from the auction. He said after the auction company was paid, the remaining funds were absorbed by Rio Grande industries (the current owner of the park at the time of closure) I'm sure they treated the liquidation like any company would handle closing of another wholly owned subsidiary. There was also a small group of managers that remained on Rio Grande's payroll for a good number of months after closing to help facilitate cleanup for the developers

I wonder where the money went after the auction? When Frontier Village closed, I was a 4th grade student at school in San Francisco. I was also thinking about the great time I was going to have on Friday nights. That was when, "The Dukes of Hazzard," was still on the air.

Where were the street intersections where FV was located? I used to see ads on TV for it "The Fastest fun in the West!" Las Vegas is similar, destroying history and landmarks to make way for condos due to "noisy neighbors" and to keep the construction industry alive in the name of "progress." FV didn't even get to its 30-year anniversary and mortgage-burning party! Lucky you, at least you have a memory of it, I never did get out of Hayward to go see it. From your videos, I missed out. Thx!

The 80s? The place closed like 4-5 months into 1980. Frontier Village is definitely all about the 70s (and the 60s).

Most of the housing development took up the western side of the park. The main courtyard area where the train station and merry go round was eventually was demolished and turned into what is now a public park with playgrounds and picnic areas and is actually quite nice. There are birdhouses scattered about that are miniature reproductions of some of the main street buildings, and in the far southeastern corner of the park itself, there are a few remaining pieces of the original wood perimeter fence enclosed in protective fencing.

A few lousy rat bastard loud mouths whined and squealed enough to kill necessary expansion... and achieved the death of the park. Only wish these villains might be named so we can offer them due credit for the ultimate destruction of a Bay Area gem.

Nice nostalgia. Sad. San Jose became a disgusting pile of multiculturalism.
