The frost free spigots need to be installed with the back of the spigot higher than the outside connection so that it can drain the water, and that is how it prevents freezing. In other words, it needs to be at an angle that enables the water to drain. I noticed your is angled to the inside. When your spigot is turned off, it will still have water in it, and it can freeze. Just wanted you to know as I learned this the hard way! Lol! 🙂

Just a thought... I was wondering if say you took a piece of 2x4 split it down the middle after Drilling the appropriate size hole then attach it to the wall and use longer screws from the front to the back plate you just made, wouldn’t that make it stronger and less chance of breaking also giving a bit more stability to the tap. Take care!

I see a lot of folks going for pex. I've always used schedule 40 PVC here in NE Florida. Is this a new development in plumbing?
@sam-and-angela
4 жыл бұрын
I like pex in areas where I want flexibility in the pipes or they might be subject to movement a lot. For a project like this, the PVC wasn't bad to use at all. PEX is a quicker solution though.

I am with you when using plastic to metal fittings use plenty of Teflon tape! The plastic likes to just stretch and not make a tight connection. I think you needed more parts though. LOL Be sure to remove hose to maintain frost free operation. I know what the vacuum break is for but not sure when you actually need it. So I just use the bib that has it. But regular hose bibs do not have the vacuum break so why bother on these.

Hi, Sam. I'm an old lady, who lives in an apartment, who will never do any plumbing, but your videos are so interesting and well done, I watched the whole thing! lol TFS (: P.S. Is that purple liquid a type of glue? If so, how does it not glue your skin when you touch it? (:
@arthurr8670
4 жыл бұрын
The purple one is a primer. Neither are a glue but a solvent, which chemically melts the pipes together. You apply the primer first to soften the pvc pipe and help clean it, then the clear one to attach and hold the pipes together. The purple color is also only for inspection purposes. You can also a clear primer but a lot of plumbing codes want the color to make sure primer was used, because if it wasn't, there is a higher fail rate of the connection.
@arthurr8670
4 жыл бұрын
Also being a solvent, it doesn't glue anything, so there is no worry about that, but you still shouldn't touch it
