Great review! Elsa froze because she dove too deep and "drowned" in the memories. How I interpret it was that she had to dive deep to discover the wrongs of their grandfather and that until those wrongs were righted, she would have been trapped by those memories.

There are so many great messages, right?? Show Yourself and The Next Right Thing had a huge impact on me, to be honest. Because, while Disney did approach self-love and grief in its movies before, I think they did it in a much deeper level in this one. Perhaps, as you said, to a level that a child on their own wouldn't be able to fully grasp and would need an adult to guide them through the message. And you approached the thing about colonialism and imperialism, which I haven't thought about, but couldn't be truer. Fun fact: Disney worked with the Sámi people (indigenous people from Scandinavia) to make sure the movie respected their culture. It still wasn't a perfect portrayal since I don't think they had Sámi actors dubbing the characters, but it was still a great improvement, in my opinion. I love how positive and kind you were to this movie. Because yeah, this is supposed to be a kids' movie and they had to make it in a way that could be understood by them. Sometimes, I feel that adults forget about this when they are reviewing a movie for children and just crush it, which is unfair. So, this was an amazing review and reaction. Thank you for it.

The reason Elsa freezes is that she's "gone too far" (that's what the song is actually called). Her mother warns her of that in her song, which is why part of it is played in an ominous, loud way when Elsa decides to follow her grandfather. She "drowned".

This is one of those times where the sequel was not only better than the first film it surpassed it just like “The Rescuers Down Under”! The scene with “Show Yourself” made me cry and I love the fact that there was no real villain it was more about uncovering the truth about the past.

Loved your thoughts on the movie! It was very interesting and I got the exact same vibe and messages about finding who you are, loving and showing yourself, imperialism and colonialism, the weight of our past and our duty to fix what our ancestors did wrong, the part about depression and taking baby steps to get out of it... The last one resonated a lot with me (I bursted into tears the first time) and after asking around, I found that people who never had to deal with depression, despair or grief in the past were mostly feeling sadness and empathy for Anna but it stopped there, whereas people who have dealt with such things were almost always deeply shaken by the song, so I'd say the lyrics are really well put together on that part. Keep the vids coming, it's always a pleasure to watch your reactions! ^^

28?! I thought you were like 24! Also - I actually really hate agnarr, he’s a horrible parent, the movie failed to acknowledge it but he’s the reason for all of her trauma, it was his idea to lock her up and cut her off from the rest of the world. There’s a deleted scene where iduna is saying that she really wants to tell anna about elsa because she wants them to be together again but agnarr said that happiness will do the same thing to her powers as fear will, so basically he didn’t want her to be happy. Agnarr was scared of elsa even if he wouldn’t admit it. I also feel bad for iduna because she became isolated from her culture and people because of all the stuff that went down, she hid a big part of herself because she didn’t want to lose agnarr since he probably had some anger or resent toward the northuldra and also magic. I really want a prequel about agnarr and iduna and their relationship etc I think it would be very interesting. Fun fact: this movie is intended for the people who watched the first movie as kids and have now grown up, that’s why it has a more ‘mature’ feel to it. Obviously it’s for all ages as younger kids can see it too but the intended age demographic were the people that watched the first movie and grew up. Olaf even talks directly to the audience pretty much saying how much they’ve grown.
@stoxophora

1st. If Agnarr didn't want Elsa to be happy then he wouldn't have travelled to the northern seas and risk his life to find the source of Elsa's powers. 2nd. Iduna confessed to Agnarr that she's a Northuldran and Agnarr is completely fine with it.

TheEverlastingSilverGladeOnTheMoon Actually he did want her happy. The feelings he wanted her to reside was fear. The problem was that him telling her to conceal her feelings made her believe happiness was one of them because even when she was happy sometimes her powers would react. Now don’t get me wrong, he definitely messed up in how he tried to help her and it was a major mistake one of which stayed with her for a long time, but he definitely wanted her happy, he just didn’t do it right.

I actually would have preferred that Arendelle wasn’t saved. It’s too easy the way they did it. Like "do the right thing and assume consequences to fix the errors of the past" and then, there are no consequences at all, no real sacrifice. It’s too easy. It should have been: "do the right thing, fix the wrong your people did in the past because even if it wasn’t you, your people are still the ones profiting from it and you should fix the situation and deal with consequences, and then rebuild from here in the respect of indigenous people". Like it would have been amazing to see them cooperating to help rebuild Arendelle or something like that. But the way the colonizers actually have nothing to pay erases the impact of the message for me. In real life, if our governments decide one day to fix things, it will not be an advantage for us. But it has to be done! Our people colonized others, our people still profit from it, our people must fix it and sacrifice some of their advantages and power. So yeah, I just think the way the end of the movie handled it is just way less impactful than if Arendelle had been destroyed.

@@_Hanako. Too soft? It's still a movie for kids. And it's an important message to give to children that, sometimes, if you do what's right, without thinking about yourself and how it impacts you, you can be rewarded. As an adult it can be seen as better to have "real consequences" but it's still a movie for kids, and I think you have to show the "good side" or sacrifice and altruism. Now tbh, I would have rather to have Olaf stay dead. It would have been a "sacrifice of childhood", kinda like Upside Down with Bing Bong, especially lining up with Elsa and Anna "growing out" of the images they had of themselves as children, this movie is about growth and I thought Olaf dying was a good part, especially since Olaf says their love is something that will never change.

@samminicksm
4 жыл бұрын
You mean that the antagonist is not one person. A true antagonist is what challenges and fights against the protagonist throughout the story. The “antagonist“ in this movie is the truth of what really happened with Northuldra and Arundel and the consequences that came of the former kings actions. The natural progression of humans’ and the spirits’ reactions is the antagonist. It’s not a person but a force of nature. The same kind of follows with the first movie. Yes, Hans is a villain, but the primary antagonist in the movie was Elsa’s reaction to years of emotional trauma at the hand of her parents, the deep freezing of Arundel. Frozen 2 was less black and white and a little more gray. It’s more mature, like the primary audience this movie is for, the now older kids that watched Frozen as kids like 6 years ago.
