Orchards!! Yes; that is indeed another feature at Capitol Reef! Fruita was a settlement situated along the Fremont River within the canyons. The floodplain typically provides soil fertile enough for growing produce and crops. The Mormon people who resided over this way highly relied on the orchards as they provided a food supply far from other neighboring villages.
The orchards usually had apples, pears, cherries, almonds, plums, or even peaches. Most of what was grown were to be canned and preserved for winter use. Capitol Reef offers orchards that allow visitors to pick from them. It is important to remember reciprocity, though. Never take more than you need.
Coming through here brought some fond memories of my late Grandma Luann of when we went to Brumbaugh's fruit farm near my hometown in Ohio. It also brought some nostalgia of my days spent in FFA. I've always had a sweet spot for orchards and gardens 😁
