These videos are new to me and I am impressed. I taught Biology and Chemistry for 34 years... this young man knows his Biochem! I always knew that we would eventually move beyond the 1000 cal weight loss plan to one more in tune with our body’s metabolic functionality. In my 60’s it is understandably more important to develop a lifestyle that supports longevity and quality of life rather than looking great! If only someone had taught me what retirement age actually feels like, I could have prevented so much damage by working with my body’s metabolism instead of against it. Thank you Thomas for looking out for future generations. Prayers for you and your efforts!

I think people are really not understanding what ketosis is... Ketosis is Not a diet Ketosis is a metabolic shift in the body.. A state of the body.. That, when glucose is not present (fasting being the quickest way to Ketosis) the body begins to use fatty acids to fuel itself.. This is Ketosis.. The diet only facilities a remaining in such a state.. a diet low in carbohydrates sufficiently enough so that the body cannot use them for fuel, it continues to use fats as a primary source of energy.. So the diet is only a tool to facilitate Ketosis.. and the remaining in that state.. To “keto adapt” the quickest way is to simply fast.. and walk.. while walking fasted you will have to learn to reuse retrain your body to use fat for energy in the absence of glucose (sugars, carbohydrstes) Consuming a diet that is moderate to low carb and practicing fasting intermittently for some days or weeks will help prime your body to Ketosis.. if on the other hand you have been eating lots of fruits and carbs and are used to that, having your liver often refilled (by fruit) then you’re going to have a tougher or longer time adapting..

When you mix fruits with other food sources, which are rich in fats, you have a much slower absorption of fructose. One apple a day keeps the doctor away, also in diet. When you are dieting and you eat below your calorie consumption you will lose fat when training and setting stimulus at your muscles. So you will remain muscle mass - while losing fat - and having some extra secondary plant nutrients which will give your health a boost.

- 3 Reasons Why Bulletproof Coffee is a Bad Idea and the dangers of long term on a ketogenic diet . Humans did NOT evolve eating (or drinking) such massive amounts of saturated fat. There are plenty of nutrients that are healthy when consumed in reasonable amounts, but when people start megadosing them it can cause serious problems. One example is fructose... it's "good" when found in nutritious, fibrous whole fruit, but a disaster when consumed in massive amounts from refined sugars (6, 7). Another example is linoleic acid (the main Omega-6 fat)... it's healthy when found in whole, nutritious nuts, but a disaster when consumed in massive amounts from veggie oils (8, 9, 10). It is entirely possible that saturated fat is the same. Healthy in reasonable amounts, but harmful when we start eating massive, unnaturally large doses that are way outside of evolutionary norms. There are plenty of nutrients that are healthy when consumed in reasonable amounts, but when people start "megadosing" them it can cause serious problems. It is entirely possible that saturated fat is the same. Healthy in reasonable amounts, but harmful when we start eating massive, unnaturally large doses that are way outside of evolutionary norms. ------BOTTOM LINE: There have been numerous reports of people having massive increases in cholesterol levels when drinking bulletproof coffee. This includes advanced risk factors like ApoB and LDL particle number. I personally think it is best to proceed with caution when adopting a drastic dietary change that has never been tested and is way outside of evolutionary norms. It is better to be safe than sorry. ---Another trend a slow unhealthy liver cannot metabolize and process eating so much fat 7 days a week . ..sooner or later your liver it clogs up . " ketogenic diet " --In the study, the researchers fed mice a ketogenic diet for several days and expected to find a favorable outcome - perhaps weight loss or another indication of improved health. Instead, they found that the "liver began resisting" insulin" almost immediately and the mice were unable to regulate their blood sugar levels after only "three days" on the diet. (Insulin resistance, meaning that cells in the body don't respond to insulin, is a key characteristic of type 2 diabetes.)😮 Go to this website to read Article on keto diet . www.livescience.com/63306-ketogenic-diet-diabetes-risk.html? ---Many people follow ketogenic diets for weight loss and other health benefits. A ketogenic diet can be an effective means to lose weight, reverse type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, and other health conditions. The problems come, however, when you follow a ketogenic diet for an "extended period" . We already know from the many children who have followed a ketogenic diet to suppress seizures that they are at least 10-fold greater risk for kidney stones, impaired growth, dysbiosis, and metabolic distortions. If you follow a ketogenic diet, you MUST address bowel flora, especially with prebiotic fibers. And you would be well advised to not remain ketotic for extended periods else you are at substantial risk for dysbiosis, constipation, diverticular disease, and "colorectal cancer" . It may help to think of diabetes as a symptom rather than a root cause of illness. If somebody is insulin resistant, for example, the resistance is a symptom of something causing the resistance, such as heavy metals, industrial chems, food sensitivities (esp to sugar) etc, blocking the cellular ability to process insulin.

The same for other types of extreme exercise videos, diet channels- different people always using unrealistic female bodies etc. I say this because I think you are so much more than a body. Your dietary knowledge is brilliant. Average and normal body types are missing amazing information by assuming you are just a muscle dude...your not. This reminded me of another Fruit video I saw - bears eat fruits before hibernation because the fructose not only gets stored more readily as fats, fructose also slows down the metabolism to build up fat stores for hibernation. Would love to see a Tom DeLauer video to hear if he agrees with that, and whether we can translate bear behavior to human behavior.

My keto friends it's good to be ketosis but you won't die if you have a piece of fruit and get kicked out for a bit. I have about half an apple every couple weeks. Kicks me right out I'm sure. The more your body gets used to ketosis the faster it can get back into it. Now if that peice of fruit throws your whole diet off and you end up craving carbs that's a different story.

I see alot of people statin that they cant believe they cant have fruit, thats not what he said. You need to moderate your intake ,just like anything else. I have avacado daily, I also have a few slices in my salad every night. My ketones are just fine. Blue berries are a great antioxident and in moderation will not hurt you, Do your research guys and see what fits you, Try checking your ketones first thing in the morning ,eat the fruit you want and in a few hours recheck your ketone level and note the results. This way you can begin to determine what and how much of a food you can have.

I use Keto strips which you can get at a some local grocery chains or a health food store, or even online. They give me a good baseline. From what i have heard they have a tester which is similar to checking glucuse in your blood and it is a better barometer as to the real number of ketones. I wish I could shed more light but like a backyard mechanic, I know enough to get me in trouble.

Thank you SO much, Thomas! Now I know why I’m so sore after HIIT and Cross this week. Inspired by your videos on caffeine pre and post workout, I went to see what would happen if I added a small amount of carbs post workout, as it would go straight into storage in the muscles and not into the bloodstream. I had consumed caffeine pre to use less stored glycogen in the muscles and then took caffeine after as well to help the carbs go straight to reloading the muscles with glycogen, enhancing my restitution rate, kickstarting this by eating an apple... I tested and I learned 🤣 Carbs from apples (fructose) does not go where I want it to go and even kill this whole double whammy of a restitution tip 🙄

Thomas I have a great idea for your next topic: Would you please do a video for those of us who have systemic yeast as a problem? I am doing keto intermittent fasting since being paralyzed for nine years in bed and gaining a lot of weight. I got my mobility back, started keto intermittent fasting 7 months ago with no breaks (it’s a lifestyle), and have dropped 68 pounds so far. Effortlessly dropping about a pound a day at this point. I abused sugar like an addict in the past, and cultured a system that is over proliferating with yeasts. I’m doing all the things & supplements for that and have followed your channel’s recommendations faithfully. I am down to a teaspoon of lemon juice as my only fruit/sugar. I don’t even do Stevia or other artificial sweeteners - found that they all make me way too loose in the bowels. All that and I’m still getting yeast when I have even a quarter cup of raspberries. I’ve noticed that when I have a tiny amount of berries mixed in a much larger amount of food, the effect is less. Appreciate any suggestions you have. Thank you!

I also enjoy the occasional sugary treats and don't really gain weight.
