Another way to do it is you just want a tone to jam with is to load a free/paid version of Bias or Amplitube. Just turn the amp and any pedal sims before it off, but leave the speaker sim and any post effects like reverb on. Dead simple. P.S. Turn the level slider down to zero for the input channel of your interface that the Power Station is running to. That's if you are hearing dry signal as well as processed.

Sorry i just ordered one and i didnt know that could be done i thought it had to be hooked to cab and use as an attenuator only . Am i correct that you can use it as load with no cab or am i missing somthing ? Either way great piece of gear steve is a genius! Thank you for any help

Correct. You can use it as a standalone load only. If you're really cranking your amp, it's a good idea to turn the PS power switch on so the fan operates. See "Silent Mode" in the manual. fryette.com/content/Power_Station_PS2A_Manual.pdf

For what I've understood reading the manual and some forums, you can run your Amp directly to the Power Station Amp in without using a speaker cabinet plugged to the Power Station, and without switching on the Power Station, for silent recording, going thru the line out of the Power Station to your audio interface . For this purpose, you can use the balanced output of the Power Station (XLR), or maybe use an external Ir's box (like I do) using the line out unbalanced out of the Power Station to the Ir's box (Mine IS OX Stomp, from Universal Audio), and then, to the audio interface. Is important to know that the Power Station IS capable to load 200w of power, but if the Power Station IS bypassed, like in the video, and you are using a high wattage amp cranked, the load can handle only the half, so be sure to put the Power Station in stand by mode, on wich the fan IS switch on full working. I think in this mode is still unnecessary to have a speaker cabinet plugged to the Power Station as the reactive load still working, so can someone confirm that??

I have a PS, right now I'm using it as an amp to power a 1x12 cab that lives inside a little iso booth I made. There are mics in the booth, and although I get a nice tone I get no space on the guitars in my mixes, probably should've made my iso booth a little bigger. To get some room tone I started using IRs. I still use the PS to power the speaker and and use that to monitor my inputs bc there's no latency and I'll apply the IRs after the fact while mixing on a separate direct channel. I'm using synergy pres so no need to soak up power, but now I'm wondering if taking the line out of the PS into my interface instead of directly coming out of the synergy pre will make any difference. The PS is not my first Freyette (VHT) power amp. Anything I run through a Freyette power amp sounds better. So....in your opinion is there any benefit to using the line out of the PS instead of the synergy pre? I can always experiment but wondering if you have any thoughts/opinions. Thanks

@@travis3656 I did indeed straight from Fyrette. It won't kill anything if you run it turned off for 5 mins or so but tbh its worth having on anyway with a powerful amp. It does get extremely hot. You can keep the speaker one jack unplugged, have the unit on and even have the standby switch on and its fine. Its all for the fan so it has active cooling. With lower power amps such as my JTM45 I don't even need to turn it on for silent recording... however make sure the speaker jack is unplugged or it'll go straight through as if bypassed!

Yes, but it depends on how much power you are sinking into the load. If it's over 50W, you need to power the PS so the fan will keep the load cool.

Hello. I have two questions based on the silent recording feature in the manual: - the power switch is circled in red as it remains active without the DC cord. What does it do? - there is a red caution text saying the unit should be turned on and set with bypass/operate switched on « bypass » in case of using a high gain mode. Why is « bypass » important if there is no cab plugged? Thanks
@FryetteAmps
9 ай бұрын
The power switch is circled to indicate that it needs to be powered when using high powered (not high gain) amps. This is necessary so the fan will operate. Bypass puts the internal power amp on standby when not in use.

Hi Joe, I just acquired the Power Station 100 and also got the Power Load IR. I have three questions: 1.) If I am reading the manuals correctly I can hook the Power Load IR up with the Power Station via the unbalanced line out. Is this favorable or should I rather use the units separately depending on the task? 2.) If I run a high powered amp cranked I still get some bleeding to the speaker with the Power Stations Volume turned completely down - can I safely run the power station without connected cab in this high powered amp scenario? Would it be best to power the unit up in that case. 3.) If I load own IR‘s into the recommended folders of the Power Load IR, I cannot use them via the unit. When selecting the bank/preset it is just the DI amp signal coming through… I tried it with different IRs from Ownhammer and pretty long ones (500ms) exported from the GGD cab plugins… Any tipp why this isn’t working? Is it the length of the IRs? I couldn’t find any specifications regarding the IR format on the Fryette homepage or the manual… Sorry for all the questions, but thanks in advance. Christopher

To FRYETTE: Why is it when I run direct out from the power station I can not hear the effects I have in the power station's "Effects loop".....I was hoping to send everything from the line out (Effects and all) line out and into a IR (two notes cab m) speaker sim then into the DAW BUT WHERE ARE THE EFFECTS IN THE PS-100's "EFFECTS LOOP")????????
@FryetteAmps

That’s just the way the Line Out works. To get effects into your DAW, you need a Y cable out of your last effect on which one end goes to FX return and the other to you DAW. You can do the same thing without a Y cable by using a stereo effect.

I got a PS-2a not long after this video hit. I still have not powered the thing on. I only use it for IRs. I plan to use the power amp section of it one day. :P One issue I am having is the tone of my amps running into DAW and IRs is not that different to using the Softube Marshall amp sims I have. The sims are near enough it does not feel worth it turning the amps on and putting wear and tear on them. It is easier to get a nice tone using the amps though. Just hit them with a drive pedal and there's the tone. With amp sims I have to piss around with levels to make sure the amp sim is getting optimal signal levels and nothing is clipping etc. But once it's done I can just hit save. P.S. I wish I could make my mind up what speaker sim or IRs I prefer. One day I think the Tony Platt ones that come with the Marshall amp sims are best, but the next day I like something like Celestion Speaker Room or Two Notes etc. I spend a lot of time messing with them instead of playing. The one I prefer might depend on which frequency my perpetual tinnitus is ringing at that day :D

One quick question: you said that the power station does not need to be on in order to get the output signal (bal or unbal) of the reactive load? So the reactive load is passive and does not require even the power cable to be connected the the Power station? Thanks and cheers!

@@FryetteAmps One more question regarding the silent recording application: - I connect my 100W Marhshall head to the power station and match the impedance. - I switch on the power station but leave it in bypass, i.e. the power station works as a load only and its fan operates to get rid of the heat. - I record from the XLR out of the power station which works fine --> However, there is an acoustic rattling of both the Marshall head and more so within the Fryette Power station. The rattling is on the frequency of the actual guitar signal, i.e. I can hear the 100W signal shaking the whole setup which is somewhat not as silent as I hoped. Is that normal? Thanks a lot! Cheers
@FryetteAmps
2 жыл бұрын
@@joapguitar 100 percent normal. Your amp has always done that. You just never heard it before because the speaker sound drowns it out. The PS is vibrating sympathetically as well. Just no speaker cone to project it out.

@@FryetteAmps Hi thanks again for the quick support. I am not sure about the PS's degree of vibration: when the 100W Head pushes the PS hard, it rattles heavily such that I need headphones to hear the recorded guitar properly. Listening to the recorded signal via speakers is not possible because the PS is too loud in that case. The case can also be solved by using the power reduction on the 100W Marshall head which still sounds fine, but it is not how I was planning to use it ;) I.e. is the loud vibration of the PS normal or could that be a bad sample that I have?
