That might be the most elegant looking flipper I have seen. Eye candy.

I'm 30-years-old and I bought one - no, I don't have arthritis. This knife is excellent though my only complaint would be the aluminum handle IS a bit slick, but a firm grip should keep you in place. I mostly open envelopes, boxes and other misc household stuff. Cheers.

Goes in my suit pocket everyday. Mine is Arcane, S90V. I am sending it you for your blade, I like it better, and it is not centered. I'm 70 in 12 days.

Nicely-done review. Very down-to-earth and realistic; not overly-tactical, like a lot of them these days. You mentioned a couple times you're not overly fond of S90v. I'm thinking because you've encountered chipping issues in your role as a pro-sharpener. However, for a gentleman's flipper such as this, why not? Just check for staples before you break down big boxes and you're golden. 9:10 - I spotted the Casio MDV-106; an equally great and down-to-earth watch. 16:40 - Benchmade does seem to go for the long game, to get their money's worth out of the development. 16:48 - Please skip the churchy stuff. Everyone has their own beliefs, no need to put yours in our faces.

Sorry, but there most certainly is a reason that I proclaim the Name of The Lord in every video - my Father in Heaven expects that I appreciate His gift of salvation enough to share it. Yes, there are many beliefs, and all but one of them lead to eternal destruction. So the question is, if what you believe is wrong, and your eternal destiny is at stake, do you want to know it? If you watch my channel, you can’t say nobody told you.

Checks ever single box [for me]: light weight thin profile blade S90V rZOR sharp edge retention, for those of us who enjoy sharpening a blade on a stone. very ergonomic zero effort to open blade lock, very nice. I can't count the times I've had an EDC get pulled out of my pocket and open. A gentleman's blade

If it takes an assisted knife to reduce the size of the flipper tab, then it's acceptable but part of the fun of the axis lock is one handed closing too

thanks the review. like the knife how abt 154cm for steel easy to work with and fits the expected use. i would consider but the mini stryker does it all (154cm) and closes with one hand (mine has a tanto blade that works great for the size etc. love your reviews.

Your entire approach as to the demographic for this knife is completely flawed. You don’t have to have poor hand strength or be elderly and lack dexterity to appreciate a rapid deploying assist mechanism. That’s like me as a fighter pilot saying I guess a lesser fighter pilot than myself would appreciate the off boresight capabilities of the AIM-9X vs the original AIM-9 air to air missile.

March Forth I don’t think so. Most experienced folder enthusiasts prefer a well designed manual mechanism. They’re just as fast to open as an assisted knife, but much faster to close, and much easier to close one handed. My point was, even being of that persuasion, if dexterity became a problem, this knife is a great alternative. The flipper is very low profile, and the action is really great. Just a brush of the finger and it’s open. If you’re an assisted knife guy, that’s great, but most collectors / users get past that fascination quickly. Here’s the proof: how many $200+ knives are assisted? Answer: roughly zero.

@@TheApostleP I am new to nice knives. Did this price go way up in the past year? I see 5 assisted knives over $200 from Benchmade, including this one.

Rob- Nice looking blade. Not a fan of aluminum unless textured to look better with inevitable rub marks. I also can't understand assisting an axis lock. You have shown that an axis will deploy as fast as any deployment method out there. A definite pass for me.

The Emerson Wave Feature is faster, but too bad Emerson production quality sucks. The Axis lock is fast in a practiced hand.

In order to keep the flipper tab so small I am sure that it needed the xtra assist to be able fly open.

I see your point. I just like an axis with a thumb stud and no assist. Works great for me.

And a fixed blade is even faster. Already deployed :-) I found the axis the easiest to learn with. Check out Rob's video showing how fast he is with the axis versus a frame lock flipper. Great demonstration.

Good video, I just bought the Arcane and cannot wait to have it in hand. It is good knowing worst case scenario if my s90v blade chips I can get a replacement for cheap from Benchmade and have a brand new knife again! Thanks for the video!

I have 211 of 1000 because originally it was not assisted but rather a workaround on the Axis lock . I guess Benchmade lost that battle and chose to rename it but I originally bought it for size, weight, and the belief it wasn't assisted. Apostle is correct because it's aluminum handle is better than most, if not all, I have handled. I only retired it because I feared scratching which was incorrect on my part. This is a perfect review of a great knife.

Hey Rob Quick question for you. I just purchased the 490 and it came with some serious centring issues. It is the first knife I've felt uncomfortable taking apart. Any ideas on fixing the centre on the blade? and Have you taken one apart? Thanks in advance

but why the rename? I can't find any info as to why they changed the model name. The change in model name actually led me to pass on buying one of these used(made before the change) because I could not find any info in regards to a "Benchmade Amicus" making me think it was some type of counterfeit. Was the rename due to CRKT's Amicus?

Does anyone know why the name changed? I ordered one of these from knivesshipfree.com and it says Arcane on the site (and the Benchmade site) but Amicus on the box it came in.
