Hi, awesome videos and great explanations. I have a 06 like yours, the black plug on my ECM does not have a wire in position 18 when looking at the back of the plug. What color should this wire be and where does it go to.? I got the bike from a friend who laid it down. All the previous tests were successful up to here. Hey Man , Quick Question I Was Checking The Engine Stop Relay & When I Jumped The 2 Wires Yuh Said To Be Jumped My Fuel Pump Primed & Started Right Up With The Jumper Not The Relay . Would That Mean My Relay Is Bad ? I Switched One Of The Other 2 Relays In That Position & Still Wouldn’t Prime . So Are All 3 Of My Relays Bad ?

However I have a European cbr 600rr 2004 and I have a Hiss receiver/transponder. Is there anyway to test this please? Thanks
@MotoBikeMike

I believe their is a pink wire that is going into the ECU. The third wire on your ignition is pink and I’m also pretty sure that same wire goes direct to the ECU. Test where the pink wire goes into the ECU and it should read like 9volts. The transistor changes the 12 volts from the battery to 9volts for the ECU to basically prevent hot wiring. Let me know how it goes.
@marthands3267

@@MotoBikeMike I checked the ignition like you said, however my bike is European and has the hiss security device so my ignition barrel only has 2 thick red cables and NO third pink cable. I tested my voltage from my ecu to the loom end of the plug for the hiss antenna/receiver and I have a spike of voltage when I first turn the key of 5volts as it’s supposed to apart from the pink cable, but it has continuity. I’m assuming my ecu has lost connection with my key that has a chip in it which isn’t allowing the fuel pump to prime. Iv asked a friend with the exact same bike if he will test my ecu in his bike for me. Iv already brought a new/used ecu with two programmed chips but that has the exact same issue…… coincidence 🤔 only one way to tell I guess.

That doesn’t actually diagnose anything though 😂 temp fix if it works. Could be many problems. Mine specifically was a faulty ECM. Other people could be bank angle sensor etc which some of the people I have helped had that problem with the no prime issue.
@jdlc2086

How did you fix no power to pin 16? I am having the same issue.
@MotoBikeMike
5 жыл бұрын
Jorge Delacruz no power specifically at pin 16 was a result of a bad ECM so every time it was plugged in it would blow the 20 amp inline fuse that comes off of the positive cable for the battery. And since I kept blowing I wouldn’t get power on Pin 16. Not the main 30 amp but the inline 20 amp. That sends power to the ECM and a few other places like to prime the fuel pump etc. Now once I replaced my ECM it stopped blowing that fuse and I got power and my bike is running. If that 20 amp fuse on your bike is not blown and you’re not getting power you will have to trace the wire that is Pin 16 all the way back to the battery and hopefully along the way you find where their is a loose connection or a split wire. You will also need to do a continuity test on any wire that is also run after the 20 amp fuse coming from the positive cable (goes to pin 16) . That’s where the power directly comes from so somewhere along that wire is a break in the connection. Literally follow it everywhere it goes and do a continuity test on all wires attached to it. Double check that fuse as well because if it keeps blowing it’s either a bad wire or a bad ECM

Just Lean if it try’s to turn over and you do have spark. Is your fuel pump working? And as well load test your battery. Don’t just check with a volt meter all that tells you is if the battery has a full charge. Load test the battery and just make sure it is still healthy. You have probably heard it a million times but a fully charged battery could still have bad cells and cause all kinds of weird problems. So check those 3 things first. Load test your battery, make sure you have spark on all plugs and check to see if your fuel pump is priming. I’m sure I don’t need to mention check fuses and hopefully you have done that.
@MotoBikeMike

Just Lean also just to entertain the idea idk how long it has sat but check the air box to see if any little rascal has made a home around your air filter. It happens.

@@MotoBikeMike yes the fuel pump works cause i can hear it priming. Also the bike will come on if u jump start it but the battery doesnt charge,it actually drains the battery.the battery is new btw.
@MotoBikeMike
4 жыл бұрын
Just Lean ok because the only thing that really uses your battery is to start it then after that it’s the charging system that keeps the bike running and charges the battery up as well so if it’s just draining the battery when you do bump start it I would lean towards your stator or could be the regulator so check those as that is your charging system. Check for any loose connections, pinched wires, shady wires in general and if any of the connections around the battery or charging system have corrosion on them or even slightly melted on the inside of any of the plugs when you check them. If you can don’t just do a visual inspection but take a volt meter and check resistance on the wires. The wire and plug could look good but in reality their could be a break in the wire that you can’t see. So if you can bump start it and the battery just drains and doesn’t charge try troubleshooting your stator and regulator. Also load test your battery just to make sure it hasn’t been damaged from the charging issue. I had a battery that was only 6 months old and 2 cells failed so caused me all kinds of grief cause I convinced myself it was fine cause it was new. Thankfully the battery was under warranty still. It wasn’t fine though just showed a full charge and occasionally I could start the bike lol. I doubt that is your problem but it’ll be good eliminate that all together and know that your battery hasn’t been damaged. Only one way to know if a battery is still good and it’s to load test.
@MotoBikeMike

Just Lean like I said though check your stator and regulator to make sure it is work correctly. My guess is if your battery isn’t charging. Your culprit is around that area.

jamie catanach first double check to make sure the inline fuse is not blown. Go to the positive cable for you battery and follow that until you come to a mini in-line fuse. I’m not talking about the main 30amp fuse in the starter relay. So double check the mini inline fuse off the positive battery cable first

Gone over all the fuses and there all good? The fuel pump primes probably once in every 20 trys.
@MotoBikeMike
5 жыл бұрын
jamie catanach have you checked continuity on that wire? I believe that black wire with the white stripe is also on the fuel cutoff relay so if you didn’t have continuity between their and A18 on the ecu plug where that black wire with the white stripe than you could have an open circuit on that wire and that wire also goes directly to the battery and . So either a bad wire or a lose connection. Or you have a bad ground and it’s cutting the power for the fuel pump. Because you’re not getting power on that wire you will have to trace that wire and check continuity on it to make sure it’s not damaged. Have you checked everything in both my first and second video

Kobus JvR I would have to take a look at the service manual as the trouble shooting process is completely different for that problem and I’d rather not just throw random things at you get you chasing ghosts but it could be coil’s, Spark plugs and could be ECM or a few other things as well. Once I get home I’ll check the list of stuff to test. I highly recommend buying a service manual to do the trouble shooting properly to avoid chasing ghosts and to do the troubleshooting exactly how you’re supposed to. Makes life easier. I’ll check the service manual when I get home but best bet get a service manual to make your life easier the. You will have a step by step right in front of you and less chance of missing something.
