I still own one of these, though I don't use it so much these days. After watching your video, I feel inspired to take it out of the cupboard and run a few rolls through it, just for old time's sake. Back in the day when I wanted to get into medium format photography, this was one of the cheapest options and so, being poor, I went for it. Never regretted it for a moment. The image quality is superb. Oh for the good old days of film photography!

It seems history repeats itself, because the gfx 50r is the cheapest option for _digital_ medium format.

Amazing Fuji lenses. Larry West, the great nature photographer and educator used one of these. He had Kirk Enterprises make an adapter so he could take his 35mm camera off and have the exact center point when he switched between them. He then used the same exposure for the GX690 he had determined for his 35mm exposure.

Years ago I wanted to buy it, then I've decided for another one because I wanted to have a different aspect ratio. I went then for the GA645.

Michael, nice video! It's August '21, what would be your 2yr review and more particularly, what issues have you run into using this bad boy?

Thanks for the video. I shoot with the GSW690 Fuji rangefinder that takes eight 6x9cm images and has a fixed 65mm f/5.6 wide-angle lens. Love using this camera for landscapes. I also shoot with the Fuji GW670 III rangefinder that takes ten 6x7cm images with fixed 90mm f/3.5 normal lens. Love using this camera for general subjects. The only thing I do not like is that there is no Fuji medium format rangefinder with a telephoto lens that I could use for individual portraits. Thank goodness, I do have an RB67 SLR with 150 and 180mm lenses that I use for portraits.

One downside to the 690 is the lack of a timed shutter release..............................................I know because I have a 690 too.

Some of the other versions do not have the 2nd shutter release on the front of the body. Until you try it, it's hard to appreciate just how comfortable that front release is. Did he mention that all of these Fuji cameras do not have a built in light meter? Not a big deal for the people likely to spend this type of money on a fixed lens camera, but just so you know....

I don't think of photography as price per picture or price per roll. I budget a few hundred dollars every year to shoot film, and I shoot a random mix of 35mm, 120 and instax. I end up shooting care free and I don't seem to go over budget. I don't really shoot huge amounts of film, though.

Is the 680iii/690iii the same dimensions as in the body size? 70iii looks impossible to find. Have you seen the GA645? What would you recommend for a walk around MF?

hi mate! thanks for the video! does the viewfinder has "focusing help" has like the Leica M has?

hey thomas, I'm not sure what you mean by focusing help? you focus the same way as a M system, its a rangefinder patch. I found it to be plenty bright and contrasty

Great video and shots! I Have a question: many listings on ebay mention a "Count" at the bottom of the camera. Does this number have any significance?
@leomadnesss
4 жыл бұрын
you have to read that number as rolls done. if counter is 055 is equal to 55x10=550 shots
@michaelmarino4098

it is the shutter count, best to see when it was last CLA'd
@FramesPerSecond

When the count reaches 500 (5000 shots) you need to get the camera serviced otherwise the shutter will go out of synch.

Why are there only 8 exposures on a roll of 120 films and not more?
@TXLorenzo
4 жыл бұрын
Due to the large size of a 6x9 image as compared to a 6x6 or 6x4.5. 120 size film is a standard length so the bigger the image, the less number of frames available.
