Careful for your lens ring. The XF50-140 is heavy. It is preferable to hold the lens rather than the camera!

It will hold well. That's not a Sony.

I love the 50-140, which I mainly use for events. ( best comparison is the fabulous 16-55, I'd say, when it comes to IQ and constant aperture, rather than the excellent 18-55). For landscape I'd take the 55-200 as it's much lighter and has more reach. But as you say, the 50-140 is top notch. Great video, Matt, many thanks.

I don't use mine a lot, but for portraits, and weddings, it's essential. I can't post it here, but at a recent wedding while the couple exchanged rings I shot 3 photos at 50mm, 80mm, and 140mm, all in a period of 11 seconds with this lens, including composing and focusing. You can't do that with primes. (I do also shoot 4 Fuji primes). :) I've also had acceptably sharp photos at 1/7 of a second. Great lens, and nice video Matt.

What primes do you use to compliment the 50-140?
@Nathansmithphotography

AcidicDelusion At weddings I use the 23mm and 35mm f1.4 primes, as well as the 56mm f1.2. Some would recommend the 16mm f1.4, an excellent lens, but I actually shoot mostly with the 16-55mm f2.8, which is super sharp at 16mm, and I have the 23mm f1.4 for low light wide angle. The 56mm f1.2 focal length is covered by the 50-140mm f2.8, but f1.2 is 2 1/2 stops faster, and has amazing bokeh and subject separation. The 90mm f2 on the other hand (also an excellent lens) is only one stop faster, lacks OIS, and you can get the same shallow DOF by taking a step back and zooming to 140mm.

@@Nathansmithphotography nice. I have the 50-140 and the kit lens. I'm trying to figure out what prime to buy, not an easy task all fuji lenses seem to be fantastic

AcidicDelusion I would recommend the Fuji 23 mm F1.4. That was my first Fuji prime. Of all the possible focal lengths that Fuji could’ve put on their first X series camera they chose 23 mm. If you don’t shoot in low light the 23 mm F2 is also a good choice, but it’s a bit soft at the edges wide open and also close up.

Another fantastic video, Matt. I used this lens a while back, it was sharper than a bag of Stanley knifes at f2.8, almost too sharp for headshots.

Thanks for sharing, I rather have more range on the wider side, it starts at 76mm!? Why? Preferably when 70mm is the standard, rhats perculiar? for me even 65mm would have helped me more. I still think its an amazing tool for the size and weight, compared with full frame versions are almost double the weight and size. and the plus for me is that it has more in focus (more depth of field) compared with full frame equivalent. I rather the 90mm or 56mm for portraits, but for events or documentary photos it’s perfect.

This lens is essential for Fuji sports photographers. It is great for fashion and portraits too. I know it's big, but on critical shoots I pretty much use it exclusively, and go to shorter primes when a wider angle of view or faster aperture is needed.

The only thing stopping me moving to Fuji from Olympus. The Olympus 40-150mm (80-300mm eqv) f/2.8 Pro lens is a corker. Relatively small & light and covers a huge zoom range at a constant fast aperture. It has 90mm at the long end on this bad boy!
